The New York Mets<\/a> may be without All-Star shortstop Francisco Lindor on Opening Day<\/a> if he cannot recover in time from surgery on his hamate bone.<\/p>\n

Linor had his stitches removed a few days ago and will start “impact” baseball activities soon.<\/p>\n

One of New York’s biggest moves of the offseason was signing Bo Bichette<\/a>, who played shortstop for the Toronto Blue Jays<\/a>, but the two-time All-Star is shifting to third base for his first season in Queens.<\/p>\n

With Marcus Semien at second and Jorge Polanco at first, the Mets’ infield alignment on Opening Day<\/a> may be set if Lindor can be ready to go by March 26. However, one of his potential replacements, a non-roster invite, may be out of the running for the gig.<\/p>\n

Grae Kessinger suffers a left knee injury<\/p>\n

Infielder Grae Kessinger entered Mets camp as a non-roster invite, having 48 games of Major League experience with the Houston Astros<\/a> from 2023-24.<\/p>\n

The 28-year-old played 11 games at Triple-A Reno in the Arizona Diamondbacks<\/a> organization last season, posting a .770 OPS in 47 plate appearances.<\/p>\n

Mets manager Carlos Mendoza relayed bad news on Kessinger’s health after today’s 14-3 victory against the St. Louis Cardinals<\/a>.<\/p>\n

According to MLB.com’s Anthony DiComo<\/a>, Kessinger suffered a left knee injury that “didn’t look too good,” per Mendoza. DiComo reports that Kessinger will undergo an MRI tomorrow.<\/p>\n

When Lindor’s injury took place, doctors estimated a six-week recovery <\/a>timeline, per DiComo.<\/p>\n
