Dan destroyed my sense of safety, my health and my family.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The devastated daughter blasted the 52-year-old killer as a man who \u201cembodies true evil.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Prosecutors said the disgraced athlete broke into the couple\u2019s home while they were out boating with family \u2013 including wife Erin Spohr \u2013 and hid in a closet with a .22-caliber gun for three hours. When they returned, he opened fire and shot them both in the head,<a href=\"https:\/\/www.latimes.com\/sports\/story\/2026-02-27\/former-mlb-pitcher-dan-serafini-sentenced-to-life-in-prison-murder\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\"> the Los Angeles Times reported.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Robert Sphor, 70, and Wendy Wood, 69, were ambushed in their Lake Tahoe home and shot in the head in June 2021. Placer County Sheriff<\/p>\n<p>Wood survived the shooting but died by suicide in 2022 at 69, with her grief-stricken family reportedly blaming her death on the depression and trauma she suffered from the heinous attack.<\/p>\n<p>The deadly ambush stemmed from a $1.3 million loan intended for his wife\u2019s horse ranch business, prosecutors argued at his six-week trial last year, the outlet reported.<\/p>\n<p>They alleged Serafini murdered his in-laws to claim their $23 million fortune through his wife\u2019s inheritance,<a href=\"https:\/\/people.com\/dan-serafini-sentenced-life-in-prison-for-shooting-in-laws-11916189\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\"> according to People.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>The pitcher-turned-killer was convicted of first-degree murder, attempted murder, and first-degree burglary.
