Recently acquired infielder Brendan Rodgers might miss an extended period, according to the latest report from MassLive’s Chris Cotillo.<\/p>\n

“The Red Sox<\/a> are still sifting through MRI results on non-roster infielder Brendan Rodgers, who suffered a shoulder injury during Wednesday’s game diving for a ball at second base,” Cotillo wrote<\/a>. “There\u2019s no word yet if there\u2019s structural damage but Rodgers, more than 48 hours after suffering the injury, remains sore, according to a source.”<\/p>\n

“At this point, a source said Friday, the club is looking at next steps when it comes to Rodgers\u2019 recovery but knows it\u2019s likely going to take some time for him to return,” Cotillo continued. “A dark horse candidate for at-bats at second base with Romy Gonzalez out of the Opening Day picture, Rodgers appears likely to begin the regular season on the injured list.”<\/p>\n

The Red Sox signed Rodgers to a minor league contract on February 5.<\/p>\n

Rodgers’ 2025 MLB season proved challenging and limited. After signing a one-year deal with the Houston Astros following his non-tender by the Colorado Rockies, the infielder appeared in just 43 games. He batted .191 with 2 home runs, 11 RBIs, 12 runs scored, and an OPS of .544 across 115 at-bats.<\/p>\n

Injuries, including a concussion, oblique strain, and broken nose, sidelined him for significant stretches, contributing to a high strikeout rate and reduced playing time. Defensively, he remained capable.<\/p>\n

Rodgers’ career spans seven MLB seasons. He owns a lifetime .261 batting average, 47 home runs, 208 RBIs, and a .714 OPS in 495 games.<\/p>\n

A standout year came in 2022 when he earned a Gold Glove at second base for elite fielding. Drafted third overall by Colorado in 2015, Rodgers established himself as a reliable infielder known for solid glove work, even as injuries and inconsistencies have impacted his bat.<\/p>\n
