Then, on Saturday, Myers started the game and turned in another solid outing. He threw three innings, giving up just one earned run on two hits, one walk, and struck out four, bringing his strikeout count to seven strikeouts in 5 1/3 innings this spring.

Afterwards, Myers said he felt good on Saturday and that it felt like his body was under control. He utilized all of his pitches, but what stood out was his use of his splitter, a pitch he just introduced last year and is using this spring to refine. He threw 13 splitters (28.3%), averaging 78.8 mph on the pitch.

“I’m not trying to do too much out there. When I’m in that mindset and kind of letting everything take care of itself, I keep myself in a better spot,” he said. “That’s my key takeaway from today: felt under control and body felt great,” said Myers.

Besides refining his splitter, Myers also said he’s refining his slider and trying to “spike it” a little bit more to create more depth and get more swing and miss with it. However, he said the splitter is the one he refining the most.

“Anything that looks the most like my fastball that’s going to kind of fade off from it is going to probably be the best pitch for me. The split, though, is probably a lot better execution pitch for me than the circle change,” he noted. “For me, it’s all execution.”

Myers also talked about his relationship with catcher Francisco Alvarez and noted that the two actually had the opportunity to work together prior to spring training. They were both living down south.

“Me, him, Freddy, a couple guys met up and were able to get some work in before camp started. This is the first time throwing to him since then. It was really really cool being able to communicate all morning what we want to do,” said Myers. “Alvy’s full of energy. He’s fun back there,” he stated.

He also credited Alvarez with being able to frame pitches well with having a few calls overturned.

Of course, the major trade the Mets made this offseason with the Milwaukee Brewers featured Freddy Peralta as the centerpiece. However, Myers is slated to be much more than just a throw-in. Especially since he is under team control for the foreseeable future.

Right-handed pitcher Tobias Myers was back on the mound on Saturday, but instead of coming out of the…

[2401
5,136,1347,753,843,59,4280,4,61,2006
0":"post-600002","1":"post","2":"type-post","3":"status-publish","4":"format-standard","5":"has-post-thumbnail","7":"category-milwaukee-brewers","8":"tag-baseball","9":"tag-brewers","10":"tag-francisco-alvarez","11":"tag-freddy-peralta","12":"tag-milwaukee","13":"tag-milwaukee-brewers","14":"tag-milwaukeebrewers","15":"tag-mlb","16":"tag-new-york-mets","17":"tag-tobias-myers
["GET
