{"id":602787,"date":"2026-03-03T02:38:10","date_gmt":"2026-03-03T02:38:10","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.rawchili.com\/mlb\/602787\/"},"modified":"2026-03-03T02:38:10","modified_gmt":"2026-03-03T02:38:10","slug":"san-francisco-giants-ace-logan-webb-will-start-wbc-opener-for-team-usa-against-brazil-2","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.rawchili.com\/mlb\/602787\/","title":{"rendered":"San Francisco Giants ace Logan Webb will start WBC opener for Team USA against Brazil"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>PHOENIX (AP) \u2014 San Francisco Giants ace Logan Webb will start on the mound for <a href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/article\/aaron-judge-united-states-world-baseball-classic-14a6687f5e767d491ec76b8e4df53473\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" data-ylk=\"slk:Team USA;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\" class=\"link \">Team USA<\/a> in its first World Baseball Classic game Friday night against Brazil, manager Mark DeRosa said Monday.<\/p>\n<p>DeRosa added that two-time defending AL Cy Young Award winner Tarik Skubal is expected to start Saturday against Britain, followed by NL Cy Young winner Paul Skenes versus Mexico on Monday.<\/p>\n<p>Advertisement<\/p>\n<p>New York Mets right-hander Nolan McLean is tentatively scheduled to start on Tuesday in the final pool-play game against Italy, even though he&#8217;s dealing with an illness and wasn&#8217;t with the U.S. team for Monday&#8217;s practice.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt&#8217;s set up,\u201d DeRosa said. \u201cThere are obviously guardrails for the tournament to begin with, pitch-count wise, but there&#8217;s also guardrails for guys having to throw on certain days to get ready for their team&#8217;s opening day.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The U.S. will play two exhibtion games in Arizona on Tuesday and Wednesday before traveling to Houston for the WBC opener against Brazil. Skenes will start Tuesday&#8217;s game against the Giants.
