{"id":604567,"date":"2026-03-03T23:31:10","date_gmt":"2026-03-03T23:31:10","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.rawchili.com\/mlb\/604567\/"},"modified":"2026-03-03T23:31:10","modified_gmt":"2026-03-03T23:31:10","slug":"area-recap-bay-city-soccer-surges-into-playoffs-with-district-titles-in-sight-sports","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.rawchili.com\/mlb\/604567\/","title":{"rendered":"Area Recap: Bay City Soccer surges into Playoffs with District Titles in sight | Sports"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"p1\">Both Bay City soccer teams, which are headed to the playoffs, have plenty of momentum as the regular season comes to an end<\/p>\n<p class=\"p3\">The Lady \u2018Cats have been relentless in outscoring their opponents, 80-2, in district play while the Bay City boys are 9-1-2 and tied for the top spot in District 21-4A.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p3\">Van Vleck\u2019s softball and baseball teams are also off to a commendable start as the Leopards\u2019 district schedule nears.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p3\">Here\u2019s a look at what\u2019s happening on the local level:<\/p>\n<p class=\"p3\">BAY CITY BLANKS COLUMBUS: The Blackcats (14-4-2 overall and 9-1-2 in District 21-4A) cruised to an 8-0 win over Columbus this past Saturday.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p3\">Bay City is tied for the top spot in district with El Campo and Columbus, each with 9-1-2 records. Columbus and Bay City tied, 2-2, in the teams\u2019 first meeting.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p3\">The Blackcats end the regular season with Wharton and Palacios, who are the seventh and eighth place teams in the district.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"p3\">Rice Consolidated will be the fourth team to qualify for the playoffs from District 21-4A.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p3\">PALACIOS WRAP UP SEASON: The Sharks play Bay City and Rice Consolidated in their final two District 21-4A matches this season.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p3\">Palacios has battled through a tough season which has produced an 0-16-1 record.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p3\">BAY CITY CONTINUES HOT PACE: The sizzling Lady \u2018Cats recorded their eighth consecutive shutout on Saturday with a 7-0 win over Columbus.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p3\">Bay City is now 17-5-1 overall and 12-0 in District 29-4A. It should finish district play unbeaten. The Lady \u2018Cats face Palacios and Wharton in their final two games.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p3\">In their current 12-match winning streak, Bay City has outscored its opponents, 80-2. In their eight straight shutouts, the Lady \u2018Cats have outscored their foes, 53-0.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p3\">PALACIOS TO CLOSE OUT SEASON: The Sharkettes end their season this week with games against Rice Consolidated and Bay City.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p3\">Palacios has endured a difficult season, record-wise, as it enters its last two games with a 1-17-1 record.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p3\">BAY CITY EARNS TWO VICTORIES: This past weekend, the Blackcats (4-2-1) defeated Lamar Consolidated, 12-4, and Stafford, 16-2, while also tying East Bernard, 7-7.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p3\">Aaron Burcia went 3-for-4 with two RBI in the win over Stafford while Ramiro Castello went 3-for-4 with an RBI. Koen Nunez and Wade Frasier also collected three hits.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p3\">Ethan Garcia and Jaxson Klepac each had two hits and two RBI.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p3\">In the win over Lamar Consolidated, Ryder Herzik, Klepac, Frasier and Burciaga each drove in two runs. Nunez and Ethan Flores each had one RBI.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p3\">In the tie with East Bernard, Flores and Nunez each drove in two runs.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p3\">PALACIOS DEFEATS WHARTON: The Sharks (2-6) defeated Wharton while losing to Hitchcock and Boling in tournament play last week.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p3\">In a 4-3 triumph of Wharton, freshman David Sandoval went 2-for-2 with an RBI while Eric Garcia, Logan Nieto and Caden Brooks each drove in a run.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p3\">TIDEHAVEN BUILDING MOMENTUM: In a 10-1 win over Somerville on Saturday, Bryce Sliva worked four innings, allowed no hits and no runs as the Tigers improved to 5-2-2 in the Hallettsville Sacred Heart tournament.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p3\">T.J. Galvan, Ashton Klaiber, Kole Sengsourivong and Kale Russel each had two hits while collecting one hit were Sliva, Hayden McCarver, Boogie Galvan and Adrian Cotton.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p3\">In an 11-11 tie with Conroe Covenant Christian, McCarver had three hits and Russell finished with two.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p3\">In its tournament opener, a 1-0 win over Shiner St. Paul, T.J. Galvan went four innings to earn the win. He struck out four and allowed just three hits.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p3\">Cade Nairn picked up the save with three scoreless innings.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p3\">Cotton and Russell had one hit each in that victory.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p3\">VAN VLECK DROPS THREE AFTER FAST START: After winning its first seven games of the season, Van Vleck dropped three matchups this past weekend.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p3\">The Leopards fell to Columbia, Pleasanton and Schulenberg in tournament games.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p3\">BAY CITY MEETS TOUGH FOES: After a 4-4 start to the season, the Lady \u2018Cats had a rough go of it this past weekend, dropping games to Los Fresnos, Victoria West and Victoria St. Joseph.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p3\">Bay City plays Wharton and Needville in its first two District 29-4A games Friday and Monday.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p3\">PALACIOS LOOKS TO BOUNCE BACK: The Sharkettes began the season with a 5-4 record but have lost their last five games.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p3\">Palacios (5-9) fell to 0-2 in District 25-3A with losses to Vanderbilt Industrial and Yoakum by respective scores of 16-2 and 11-8.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p3\">In the matchup with Yoakum, Palacios received hits from Cheyenne Sweet, Jahana Starrett, Dazia Alcantara, Breylyn Elizondo and Kinsley Marroquin.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p3\">Starrett, Elizondo and Marroquin each drove in one run.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p3\">In a 19-4 loss to Van Vleck, Riley Critendon went 2-for-2.
