{"id":607051,"date":"2026-03-05T04:32:16","date_gmt":"2026-03-05T04:32:16","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.rawchili.com\/mlb\/607051\/"},"modified":"2026-03-05T04:32:16","modified_gmt":"2026-03-05T04:32:16","slug":"as-willing-to-bring-former-mlb-draft-pick-kyler-murray-after-cardinals-exit","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.rawchili.com\/mlb\/607051\/","title":{"rendered":"A&#8217;s willing to bring former MLB draft pick Kyler Murray after Cardinals exit"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Could Kyler Murray change sports? <\/p>\n<p>One MLB club certainly wouldn\u2019t mind. <\/p>\n<p>Murray, who is <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2026\/03\/03\/sports\/cardinals-cutting-kyler-murray-seven-years-after-taking-qb-no-1\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">expected to be released <\/a>by the Arizona Cardinals ahead of the new NFL year, was selected by the A\u2019s as the No. 9 overall pick in the 2018 MLB Draft.<\/p>\n<p>He eventually went back to Oklahoma, though, winning the Heisman Trophy and getting taken as the top overall pick in the NFL.<\/p>\n<p>That all but ended his baseball-playing career. <\/p>\n<p>But the A\u2019s are keeping the door open as Murray is soon to be without an NFL team. <\/p>\n<p><img style=\"aspect-ratio:1.49926794;display:block\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" data-modal-image=\"38678965\" width=\"885\" height=\"590\" src=\"https:\/\/www.rawchili.com\/mlb\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/03\/GettyImages-2241111548.jpg\" alt=\"Kyler Murray #1 of the Arizona Cardinals throws a pass during the NFL game at State Farm Stadium on October 05, 2025 in Glendale, Arizona.\" class=\"wp-image-38678965\"  \/>Kyler Murray throws a pass during the Cardinals\u2019 win over the Titans at State Farm Stadium on Oct. 5, 2025 in Glendale, Ariz. Getty Images<\/p>\n<p>\u201cKyler is an elite NFL quarterback and I\u2019m sure there are plenty of opportunities for him to continue his football career,\u201d A\u2019s general manager David Forst <a href=\"https:\/\/www.mlb.com\/news\/kyler-murray-released-a-s-open-to-reunion-with-former-first-round-draft-pick\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">told MLB.com<\/a>. \u201cThat said, he and his baseball representatives know that we\u2019re always open to him exploring a return to baseball with the A\u2019s if that time ever comes.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Murray, an outfielder, signed a $4.6 million contract with the A\u2019s after the 2018 draft, with the deal allowing him to play college football with the Sooners before coming to the baseball team the next year.<\/p>\n<p>However, in February of \u201919, Murray posted a statement to Twitter where he said he had changed his mind and he was going to pursue professional football. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cMoving forward, I am firmly and fully committing my life and time to becoming an NFL quarterback,\u201d Murray wrote. \u201cFootball has been my love and passion my entire life. Getty Images<\/p>\n<p>Murray played two seasons on Oklahoma\u2019s baseball team, hitting .261\/.381\/.466 with 10 home runs and 53 RBIs.<\/p>\n<p>Before the 2019 season, he <a href=\"https:\/\/www.mlb.com\/milb\/prospects\/2019\/athletics\/kyler-murray-663470\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">ranked as the A\u2019s No. 4 prospect on MLB Pipeline<\/a>, with a 50\/80 overall grade.<\/p>\n<p>The A\u2019s, meanwhile, have a young core of major leaguers \u2014 particularly in their lineup \u2014 that makes them a promising team in the American League West. <\/p>\n<p>They <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2026\/01\/31\/sports\/as-ink-young-star-jacob-wilson-to-seven-year-70-million-contract-extension\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">inked All-Star shortstop Jacob Wilson<\/a> and outfielder <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2025\/12\/25\/sports\/as-sign-tyler-soderstrom-to-86-million-contract-extension\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Tyler Soderstrom to seven-year extensions<\/a> this offseason as they look to improve upon a 76-win 2025. Fangraphs projects the team to have a four-win improvement in 2026.<\/p>\n<p>Murray said Tuesday after the news of his Arizona departure that he was <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2026\/03\/03\/sports\/kyler-murray-gets-blunt-about-his-shock-cardinals-divorce\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">\u201csorry\u201d he \u201cfailed\u201d the Cardinals<\/a>. He finished his Arizona tenure with a 38-48-1 record, 20,460 passing yards and 3,193 rushing yards. He should still have plenty of suitors in the NFL, with the <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2026\/03\/03\/sports\/qb-market-offers-jets-plenty-of-options-but-few-inspiring-answers\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Jets potentially being one of them<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>But if he wants to take a different swing path, the A\u2019s are open and willing.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"Could Kyler Murray change sports?
