MURFREESBORO, Tenn. \u2014Defending Missouri Valley Conference and NCAA Super Regional baseball champion Murray State fell Tuesday by a 5-2 score to a very strong Middle Tennessee team, snapping its eight-game winning streak.<\/p>\n
Murray State (10-3) was held to just one hit in the contest. Kristofer Hokenson delivered that lone hit, an RBI single that drove in the first run of the game for the Racers. The performance marked the first time since March 19, 2021, against Jacksonville State that the Racers were held to one hit or fewer in a regular-season game.<\/p>\n
In a closely contested pitching duel, the Murray State staff limited the Blue Raiders (9-3) to only two hits through seven innings. MTSU, like Murray State, a former member of the Ohio Valley Conference, broke through in the eighth, recording three hits and capitalizing on two Murray State errors to secure the victory.<\/p>\n
Carter Boyd made his first start on the mound for the Racers, throwing three innings. He struck out one batter and allowed just one hit, a solo home run in the second inning. Dylan Zentko took the loss, his first of the year, allowing three runs, only one earned, on three hits in the eighth inning.<\/p>\n
