With just 20 days remaining until the New York Yankees<\/a> visit the San Fransico Giants for Major League Baseball’s first game of the 2026 season, there are still a handful of free agents<\/a> available.\u00a0<\/p>\n

The group includes mostly veterans who may be holding out in the hope of securing a Major League job. First baseman\/designated hitter Wilmer Flores is among<\/a> that collection of players.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Flores spent the past six seasons with the Giants after breaking into the league as a utility player with the New York Mets<\/a> in 2013. At 34, his offensive numbers are down, as he posted a .686 OPS, 16 home runs, and .379 SLG % in 463 trips to the plate in 2025.\u00a0<\/p>\n

However, Flores is not ready to put an end to his professional baseball career.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Flores on free agency: ‘I’m just waiting’\u00a0<\/p>\n

In a recent conversation with The San Francisco Chronicle<\/a>, Flores said he’s received minor league offers that he’s turned down.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m not done playing,\u201d Flores said. \u201cI\u2019m just waiting.\u201d<\/p>\n

At this stage of his career, Flores is mostly utilized in a platoon role against left-handed pitching and at DH. He made 32 appearances in the field last season – 30 at first base and two at third.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m healthy, I feel good, and I\u2019m staying ready,\u201d Flores said, per The San Francisco Chronicle. \u201cI believe I can help a team. I wouldn\u2019t be doing this if I thought I would embarrass myself.\u201d<\/p>\n
