Bader said the organization’s overall roster construction and competitive outlook played a major role in his decision.

Bader talked about his situation when speaking recently during an appearance on MLB Network Radio on SiriusXM.

“For me, first and foremost, it’s about the opportunity to win,” Bader said. “I believe this roster has the ability to go out there, make the playoffs, and go deep.”

The veteran center fielder emphasized that the Giants appealed to him because of their balance across the roster.

He pointed to the club’s mix of position players, pitching, and organizational depth as ingredients that could position the team for success over the course of a long season.

Bader explained that a strong clubhouse and front office structure also contribute to building a contender.

While players ultimately determine results on the field, he noted that success is shaped by many parts of the organization working together — from the coaching staff to analysts and decision-makers behind the scenes.

“It starts with the personnel,” Bader said. “The guys in the clubhouse, the players who go out there every day. But there’s also a lot of support behind them — coaches, analysts, people making roster decisions. It all works together.”

Beyond the team’s potential, Bader also sees a personal opportunity in San Francisco.

Throughout his career, he has prided himself on preparing to handle the responsibilities of an everyday center fielder, even as roster trends around the league have increasingly emphasized versatility and positional rotation.

Bader acknowledged that many teams prefer to rotate outfielders or deploy players at multiple positions. Still, he believes the Giants offer a chance for him to establish himself as a regular presence in center field.

“I’ve always wanted to be an everyday center fielder,” he said. “That’s how I train and prepare. If I get the opportunity to play there consistently, that’s something I want to take on and prove I can do.”

With spring competition underway, Bader is eager to embrace the challenge.

His goal, he said, is simple: Stay ready, contribute daily, and help the Giants perform at their highest level.

Rather than focusing on divisional rivals or outside expectations, Bader believes the path forward starts internally.

If the Giants play the brand of baseball they are capable of, he said, then the results will take care of themselves.

Don’t miss out on our ROUNDTABLE community and the latest news!

It’s completely free to join.
