But there has been some growth, as he displayed Sunday in a 10-4 loss to the Mets at Clover Park.\u00a0<\/p>\n
For a second straight game, Dom\u00ednguez made a nice running catch, this time on a sinking liner by A.J. Ewing in the bottom of the fifth, and Dom\u00ednguez followed it up with a strong throw home, where he threw out Vidal Bruj\u00e1n.\u00a0<\/p>\n
\u201cIt was a busy afternoon out there,\u201d said Dom\u00ednguez, who also had a ball hit by Tyrone Taylor get by him in the gap, but neither he nor Aaron Boone thought he could have gotten to it. \u201cIt was good to throw the guy out at home.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n
It came after Boone said Dom\u00ednguez, who has struggled for the most part since shifting from center to left, made some poor decisions with his throws last week.\u00a0<\/p>\n
\u201cHe\u2019s made excellent throws the last two days,\u201d the manager said of the plays he made Sunday against the Mets and Saturday versus Miami. \u201cHe\u2019s playing a lot. He\u2019s worked a lot. One of the best parts about this trip [to the east coast of Florida, with most regulars staying back or in the World Baseball Classic] is that we saw his athleticism.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n

When he was coming through the Yankees system, Dom\u00ednguez was said to have an elite arm, but that has not been on display much.\u00a0<\/p>\n
\u201cI\u2019ve always had a pretty good arm, it just hasn\u2019t shown as much,\u2019\u2019 Dom\u00ednguez said. \u201cMy arm wasn\u2019t the problem. Maybe I\u2019m more aggressive now getting to the ball and am in better position to make throws. Compared to last year, I\u2019m a lot more comfortable [in left].\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n
Boone said the team hasn\u2019t \u201ceven really begun discussions\u201d on the final roster spots.\u00a0<\/p>\n
\u201cWe\u2019ll continue to let that play out and let guys get their reps,\u201d the manager said Sunday.\u00a0<\/p>\n
They\u2019ve got decisions to make regarding the last arms in the bullpen, as well as deciding between perhaps a backup shortstop or third catcher.\u00a0<\/p>\n<\/p>\n
Ben Rice hasn\u2019t caught in a game, but Boone noted that he caught Carlos Rod\u00f3n\u2019s bullpen session Saturday.\u00a0<\/p>\n
With Anthony Volpe sidelined and Jos\u00e9 Caballero expected to start at shortstop, Boone said the backup shortstop situation is \u201cup in the air.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n
Boone didn\u2019t rule out Ryan McMahon playing there in the future or going with a \u201csuper-utility\u201d player for the final roster spot.\u00a0<\/p>\n
And with Randal Grichuk expected to make his Grapefruit League debut Monday in Tampa, the Yankees will get a better read on what the veteran outfielder can potentially contribute after signing with the team on a minor league deal.\u00a0<\/p>\n
\u201cThat\u2019s what the next two-plus weeks will be about,\u201d Boone said of the decision-making process.\u00a0<\/p>\n
