Inside the organization and across the fanbase of the Arizona Diamondbacks, Lawlar represented the next wave. Lawlar is the kind of dynamic athlete capable of changing innings with all the major tools any ball player at that level needs. Yet every opportunity seemed to come with an interruption. Injuries stalled momentum. Early major league at-bats exposed inconsistent plate vision. A player who dominated Triple-A Reno suddenly looked like someone still learning the pace of the big leagues.

Arizona outfielder Lawlar during spring training workouts at Salt River Fields on Feb. 13, 2026, in Scottsdale. © Rob Schumacher/The Republic / USA TODAY NETWORK via Imagn Images

Jordan Lawlar is on fire for Diamondbacks during 2026 Spring Training:

Lawlar’s development arc always hinted at this moment. In Reno, his offensive profile showed a rare balance of contact ability, gap power, and baserunning instincts that forced pitchers and defenses to rush decisions. The challenge was translating those instincts against major league sequencing and velocity. Early returns this season suggest the adjustment phase is ending. The biggest indicator isn’t just production, it’s poise. With his approach looking calmer, Lawlar is hunting pitches rather than reacting to them, a subtle shift that often marks the difference between a promising prospect and a reliable contributor.

May 27, 2025; Phoenix, Arizona, USA; Arizona Diamondbacks second baseman Jordan Lawlar against the Pittsburgh Pirates at Chase Field. Mandatory Credit: Mark J. Rebilas-Imagn Images

The timing could not be more critical with injuries temporarily sidelining both Corbin Carroll and Lourdes Gurriel Jr., Arizona suddenly needs offensive stability and defensive flexibility in the outfield. Lawlar’s athleticism gives the club options, and his bat may soon demand everyday playing time. For D-backs fans, the hope has always been simple, as they are waiting to see all the flashes of talent come to fruition. The question surrounding Lawlar isn’t whether he has star potential. It’s whether this season becomes the moment that potential finally stays on the field long enough to help define the Diamondbacks’ future.

Get the BEST Phoenix sports insider information, and exclusive content.
