Part of returning to the playoffs will be the pitching performance of closer <a href=\"https:\/\/clutchpoints.com\/mlb\/players\/a0ab08bb\/josh-hader\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Josh Hader<\/a>. <a href=\"https:\/\/clutchpoints.com\/mlb\/houston-astros\/astros-news-josh-hader-injury-update-opening-day-catch\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Hader is dealing with an injury<\/a>, though.<\/p>\n<p>Now, it is being reported that Hader <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/Chandler_Rome\/status\/2031725818917912651\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">will begin the season on the injured list<\/a>, missing <a href=\"https:\/\/clutchpoints.com\/tag\/opening-day\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Opening Day<\/a>, according to Chandler Rome of The Athletic.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAstros closer Josh Hader will start the season on the injured list, manager Joe Espada said. Hader threw his first bullpen session of <a href=\"https:\/\/clutchpoints.com\/tag\/spring-training\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">spring training<\/a> yesterday and felt good, but the timeline the team has laid out won&#8217;t have Hader ready for Opening Day,\u201d Rome posted on X, formerly Twitter.<\/p>\n<p>Hader missed the final two months of the 2025 season due to a shoulder injury, and did note that he was behind in his rehab due to tendinitis in his bicep at the start of Spring Training. The relief pitcher <a href=\"https:\/\/www.mlb.com\/news\/josh-hader-injured-list-2026\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">spoke about his first bullpen session<\/a> to the media, according to Brian McTaggart of MLB.com.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI had a little bit of momentum down the mound, so I felt good,\u201d Hader said. \u201cI felt like my body was in sync.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The flamethrower threw 15 pitches in his session, being closely watched by his pitching coach, Josh Miller.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe ball was coming out easy,\u201d Miller said. \u201cIt was his first normal bullpen in a while, and he had the governor on for a while, but he looked good.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>While he will begin the season on IL, there is a positive note that this does not seem to be long-term and will not impact the full season.<\/p>\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/clutchpoints.com\/mlb\/houston-astros\/astros-news-how-will-houston-bounce-back-2026-jose-altuve-answer\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Astros are looking to bounce back<\/a> and be a contender in 2026.
