The play, in which Miguel Rojas\u2019 throw to catcher Will Smith beat IKF to the plate by apparent inches, was far more definitive, the MLB found, with the runner out by three feet.<\/p>\n
The review confirmed that Smith\u2019s foot was still on home plate when he made the initial catch.<\/p>\n
\u201cAfter reviewing all relevant angles, the replay official definitively determined the catcher\u2019s foot was touching the plate when the ball contacted the interior of his mitt,\u201d said the league\u2019s official report.<\/p>\n
Smith said earlier this month that he didn\u2019t feel at the time how close he was to appearing to come off home plate.<\/p>\n
\u201cI never felt my foot come off,\u201d Smith said. \u201cI didn\u2019t really realize it (was close) until I saw the replay, so I wasn\u2019t trying to go back and touch it.\u201d<\/p>\n

If IKF had beaten the throw, then the Blue Jays would have won the World Series right there.<\/p>\n

Rojas\u2019 homer in the top of the inning would be an interesting footnote to the game, and Smith never would\u2019ve gotten to hit his 11th-inning home run.<\/p>\n
Additionally, the Dodgers wouldn\u2019t be chasing a third straight championship in 2026, and the talk of a Dodgers dynasty would carry a lot less weight.<\/p>\n
Will This Change How the 2025 World Series is Remembered?<\/p>\n
For Blue Jays players and fans, it\u2019s unlikely this takes all the sting out of the loss.<\/p>\n
Even without this play, there are still home runs in the ninth and 11th innings that likely bring up painful memories.<\/p>\n
At least with this, though, the Jays know for sure they didn\u2019t lose on a bad call by the umpire.<\/p>\n

Jays manager John Schneider said he\u2019d been rewatching that moment and \u201chow close it was.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cI\u2019ve seen that video 3,000 times and 1,500 of them it looks like Will is off the plate. You know what I mean?\u201d Schneider said. \u201cAnd the other half it looks like he\u2019s on.\u201d<\/p>\n
For Smith, though, this doesn\u2019t change much.<\/p>\n
