PORT ST. LUCIE \u2014 Carlos Beltr\u00e1n\u2019s number is headed to the proverbial rafters at Citi Field.<\/p>\n

The Hall of Fame outfielder<\/a> will have his No. 15 retired this season during a ceremony, on a date still to be announced by the club, The Post has learned. Beltr\u00e1n will also be inducted into the club\u2019s Hall of Fame on that day.<\/p>\n

The Mets originally planned a club Hall of Fame induction that included Beltr\u00e1n, Lee Mazzilli and Bobby Valentine<\/a>. Mazzilli and Valentine will have their induction ceremony May 30, the Mets announced Thursday. The change to give Beltr\u00e1n his own day was decided after he was voted into the Hall of Fame by the Baseball Writers\u2019 Association of America in January.<\/p>\n

Beltr\u00e1n announced last month that he would wear a Mets cap on his Hall of Fame plaque. Seaver and Piazza are the only other Hall of Famers with that designation. Beltr\u00e1n also spent a significant portion of his career with the Royals, the organization in which he arrived to the major leagues.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"PORT ST.
