Julio Rodriguez would rather win the WBC than the World Series. Recently, in a post-game interview after the Dominican Republic played in the WBC, Rodriguez said, \u201cI love the Mariners. They know I give my best every single time I step on the field, but winning a World Baseball Classic would be top of the list.\u201d The controversial comments have been scrutinized all over social media, and the fact that Rodriguez is one of the franchise leaders for the Seattle Mariners makes the comments even worse. <\/p>\n

The Mariners absolutely could trade Julio Rodr\u00edguez after this, and it\u2019s not because one quote suddenly erased everything he\u2019s done; it\u2019s because it ripped the mask off what really matters most to him. When your supposed franchise cornerstone says, out loud, that winning the World Baseball Classic is \u201ctop of the list\u201d over a World Series, he\u2019s telling you exactly where the organization ranks\u2014and it\u2019s not at the top. It makes him the wrong centerpiece for a franchise that has spent decades starving for a World Series ring. <\/p>\n

If you\u2019re going to build everything\u2014marketing, payroll structure, long-term planning\u2014around one guy, that guy\u2019s number one obsession has to be winning a championship in Seattle. The Mariners have been haunted by what-ifs and almosts for 40-plus years; they don\u2019t need another era defined by a star whose ultimate peak moment is with his Dominican Republic teammates and not his Seattle teammates.<\/p>\n

So yes, trade him\u2014while his value is still sky-high and before this turns into a years-long drama about priorities and commitment. Move him now, and you can flip him for a haul of major-league-ready bats and arms, spread the risk across multiple players, and finally build a roster whose emotional center is obsessed with winning a World Series in Seattle above all else. <\/p>\n

Keeping him after this feels like clinging to a poster more than chasing a trophy. If Julio\u2019s dream parade is in Santo Domingo, let him chase it\u2014and let the Mariners finally build around someone whose first, second, and third answers to the question \u201cWhat do you want most?\u201d all start and end with bringing a title to this cursed franchise.<\/p>\n
