Miranda went 2-for-3 and has a 1.156 OPS this spring. He is competing for perhaps one of two available bench spots, depending on how quickly Sung-Mun Song recovers from his latest oblique tweak. … Civale was back on the mound in the second inning when left fielder Bryce Johnson and center field Nick Schnell went back-to-back. It was Johnson’s second homer and Schnell’s fourth, tops on the team. … Right fielder Jase Bowen went 2-for-4 with two doubles, an RBI and a run scored. … A two-run single from center fielder Clay Dungan keyed a five-run eighth inning, after most starters had exited the game. … 3B Marcos Castañon went 2-for-2 and hit his first home run of the spring in the ninth inning.

Balls and strikes: Right-hander Michael King breezed through three innings before giving up back-to-back-to-back homers in the fourth inning to Henry Bolte, Breyson Guedez and Nick Kurtz. He was ultimately lifted for pitch count reasons before the end of the frame before coming back out for one out in the fifth inning. King threw 55 of his 80 pitches for strikes and allowed six runs on seven hits, a walk and a hit batter. He struck out five. King has a 9.95 ERA through four Cactus League starts… Right-hander Jeremiah Estrada went up-and-down for the first time this season, recording the final two outs of the fifth inning to strand one of King’s runners and then striking out two of three batters he faced in the sixth inning. Estrada has struck out 10 over 6⅔ scoreless innings this spring. … Right-hander Triston McKenzie struck out five, walked two and allowed a run in two innings. … Right-hander Bradgley Rodriguez walked two while allowing a run in the ninth inning.

Extra bases: King faced the meat of Sacramento’s expected lineup as the top four hitters on Friday — Kurtz, the reigning AL Rookie of the Year, catcher Shea Langeliers, left fielder Tyler Soderstrom and DH Brent Rooker — combined for 122 home runs last year. That lineup, however, didn’t record its first hit until Rooker led off the fourth with a single off King, the start of a seven-run inning.

On deck: The Padres will have their first split-squad action of the spring on Saturday. Right-hander Nick Pivetta will start a 1:10 p.m. game in Peoria against the Cleveland Guardians and left-hander Marco Gonzales will start a 1:05 p.m. game against the Texas Rangers in Surprise.

[2407
5,853,4,43,137,18,4339,4338,185
0":"post-622498","1":"post","2":"type-post","3":"status-publish","4":"format-standard","5":"has-post-thumbnail","7":"category-san-diego-padres","8":"tag-baseball","9":"tag-latest-headlines","10":"tag-mlb","11":"tag-padres","12":"tag-san-diego","13":"tag-san-diego-padres","14":"tag-sandiego","15":"tag-sandiegopadres","16":"tag-sports
["GET
