The Cubs made the trip to Camelback Ranch for a Friday afternoon matchup against the rival White Sox. The road team did not bring a lot of players from the major league roster on the trip and it showed as they went down to defeat.<\/p>\n
The Sox grabbed the lead on an RBI single by Korey Lee<\/a> in the bottom of the 2nd. Andrew Benintendi<\/a> had a run-scoring double in the 4th and Lee added a solo shot in the 5th to give the home team a 3-0 advantage.<\/p>\n The North Siders finally scratched the scoresheet in the top of the 6th catcher when Miguel Amaya<\/a> hit a deep fly ball to center that got past outfielder Jarred Kelenic<\/a>, allowing two runs to score. The play was ruled an error on Kelenic, so Amaya did not get credit for drinkng in those runs.<\/p>\n The South Siders got a solo home run from Everson Pereira<\/a> in the bottom of the frame to wrap up all the offense on Friday and they won by a margin of 4-2. (Box score<\/a>)<\/p>\n Key Moment<\/p>\n The Cubs had the bases loaded with nobody out in the top of the 7th and did not score a run.<\/p>\n Why the Cubs Lost<\/p>\n They were unable to get any timely hitting in this one.<\/p>\n Stats That Matter<\/p>\n Amaya was back in the lineup after Panama was eliminated from the WBC.Mois\u00e9s Ballesteros<\/a> played first base and had a pair of hits.<\/p>\n Bottom Line<\/p>\n The Cubs should have a much deeper bench than they did in 2025, which will come in handy during a 162-game season. Ballesteros is going to be a major part of that, and he has been impressive so far this spring.<\/p>\n On Deck<\/p>\n Chicago heads over to Salt River Fields to take on the Rockies Saturday at 3:10pm CT.
