Henry Davis made his first hit of the spring count to lead off the home half of the first inning this afternoon:<\/p>\n
Entering today hitless in his first 17 spring at-bats, Davis got that 0-1 changeup from Trevor Rogers and didn’t miss it, sending it out to put an end to a lengthy drought in the Pirates’ 8-6 win over the Orioles today here at LECOM Park.\u00a0<\/p>\n
“His at-bats are getting better,” Don Kelly said of Davis, who also drove in a run with a bases-loaded walk. “It started that game [against] New York, continues to progress. Great at-bats, came up in that second one and worked a walk with bases loaded, and then got hit, and then hit a missile to short. He’s starting to see the ball well and the at-bats are coming around.”\u00a0<\/p>\n
The results haven’t been there for Davis this spring, but he sees the work he did over the offseason shining through. He’s getting accustomed to his more upright stance and trying to catch the ball further out front, all while swinging at the right pitches. His focus is on having good at-bats, something he did here today, and hitting the ball hard consistently. There are still the occasional pop ups that he’d like to avoid, but the lack of results don’t reflect how he’s truly feeling at the plate.\u00a0<\/p>\n
\u201cI think I\u2019m in a great spot to see the ball,” Davis said. “Really swinging at the right pitches. Even looking at chase and miss, but I have plenty of pop.
