SCOTTSDALE, Ariz.\u2014 The Padres and Diamondbacks tied 4-4 on Sunday afternoon at Salt River Fields at Talking Stick.<\/p>\n
Batters box: The Padres did not record a hit until after right-hander Brandon Pfaadt exited after five perfect innings in which he struck out six. Jake Cronenworth recorded the Padres\u2019 first hit of the game with two outs in the sixth inning off right-hander Jonathan Loaisiga. Singles from catcher Freddy Fermin and second baseman Mason McCoy were the only other hits recorded by Padres starters. \u2026 Designated hitter Luis Campusano went 0-for-3 with a walk and is hitting .148 through 12 games. \u2026 First baseman Romeo Sanabria hit a two-run double off the bench. \u2026 Second baseman Pablo Reyes hit a game-tying double in the ninth inning after Campusano\u2019s walk.<\/p>\n
Balls and strikes: Right-hander Randy V\u00e1squez turned in three scoreless innings before an error to start the fourth inning played a role in unraveling his start. He threw 25 of his 71 pitches (50 strikes) while recording one out in the fourth inning, exited and returned to throw a scoreless fifth inning. All told, V\u00e1squez struck out four and allowed four earned runs on five hits over 4\u2153 innings. Diamondbacks star Corbin Carroll accounted for two of V\u00e1squez\u2019s four strikeouts. \u2026 Right-hander David Morgan threw a scoreless sixth. He hasn\u2019t allowed a run in six innings so far, \u2026 Right-hander Bradgley Rodriguez threw a scoreless inning to lower his ERA to 1.13. \u2026 Left-hander Adri\u00e1n Morej\u00f3n walked a batter in a scoreless inning.<\/p>\n
Extra bases: Nick Castellanos\u2019 start in left field was the first of the spring. He has just 11 starts in his career in left field, as his outfield work has predominantly come in right field. Castellanos has four starts in right field this spring and six at first base, the position he\u2019s learning with the Padres. Castellanos got turned around while going back on his one chance in left field but he ultimately made the catch near the warning track. \u2026 Samad Taylor started for the second time in right field and overran a single in the fourth inning, an error that was the start of a four-run rally for the Diamondbacks. \u2026 Taylor exited in the middle of his sixth-inning at-bat after cramping in his right calf while starting down the first base line on a foul ball.<\/p>\n
