The New York Yankees reassigned one of their top prospects to minor league camp.<\/p>\n

New York on Thursday announced that right-handed pitcher Carlos Lagrange was reassigned to minor league camp. Manager Aaron Boone admitted it was a “difficult decision,”<\/a> given the 22-year-old’s impressive spring training.<\/p>\n

Yankees ace Max Fried was among multiple people in the Yankees organization who saw a bright future<\/a> for the Dominican pitcher.<\/p>\n

“I\u2019ve never seen velocity like that, consistently and doing it over a bunch of innings,” Fried told reporters, per Bryan Hoch of MLB.com. “He works really hard. He\u2019s really open to a lot of information, and obviously his results speak for themselves. He\u2019s been really good. He\u2019ll definitely impact this team.\u201d<\/p>\n

Lagrange pitched three Grapefruit League games. He recorded a 0.93 ERA in 9 2\/3 innings<\/a>, and he most notably topped out at 103 mph in one of his outings.<\/p>\n

That tantalizing talent is why the right-hander is ranked as the Yankees’ No. 2 prospect, according to MLB Pipeline<\/a>. Baseball America ranked Lagrange No. 93 in its prospect rankings heading into the 2026 Major League Baseball season.<\/p>\n

Despite the talent displayed during spring training, he’ll get more seasoning in the minors. Last season with Double-A Somerset, Lagrange pitched 78 1\/3 innings and recorded a 3.22 ERA with 104 strikeouts. It might not be long until he makes his Triple-A Scranton\/Wilkes-Barre debut this season if he continues his strong production.<\/p>\n
