CUMBERLAND, Md. \u2014 Former Newburgh Free Academy (NFA) ace hurler Chase Rounds allowed just one earned run over five innings as SUNY Ulster\u2019s baseball team posted a 6-4 victory in the nightcap to split a doubleheader with the Allegany College of Maryland on Thursday, March 19.<\/p>\n
Rounds gave up five hits and two runs over the first five innings. Ashton Hotaling earned the save for the visiting Senators (1-4) by allowing one hit and one earned run in two innings of work in the seven-inning contest.<\/p>\n
Forrest Mitterbauer was 2-for-2 at the plate and drove in a pair of runs for SUNY Ulster in the win.<\/p>\n
Austin Blessing, Noah Devolin and Edwin Bueno had RBIs for the Senators.<\/p>\n
Host Allegany College (9-6) scored seven runs in the bottom of the second inning on the way to a 9-5 victory in the opener of the doubleheader.<\/p>\n
SUNY Ulster rallied for four runs in the top of the third to cut its deficit to 7-4 and added another run in the fourth inning to cut the lead to 7-5. The hosts scored two runs in the bottom of the fifth inning to round out the scoring in the seven-inning game.<\/p>\n
Sean Gallagher went 3-for-3 at the plate for SUNY Ulster, scored twice and drove in one run as the visitors collected eight hits in the opener. Blessing was 2-for-4 with an RBI and Bueno knocked in two runs. Devolin and Red Hook graduate Jack Neese also chipped in with one RBI each.<\/p>\n
Onteora High product Anthony Umhey was the starter and loser for the Senators.
