Auburn defeated Texas in walk-off fashion during the top-five college baseball matchup in Alabama on Friday night. Unfortunately, the jubilant celebration took a turn for the worst because of an errant throw.<\/p>\n

Longhorns shortstop Adrian Rodriguez committed an egregious act of disrespect that put the Tigers in danger.<\/p>\n

It will be interesting to see if things get chippy throughout the rest of the weekend because of this. There is always the risk of retaliation in college baseball<\/a>!<\/p>\n

Auburn walked it off to win the college baseball game.<\/p>\n

This is one of the biggest three-game series of the entire season. Texas entered the weekend ranked No. 2 in the country at 18-2. Auburn entered at No. 4 with the exact same overall record.<\/p>\n

The crowd at Plainsman Park was absolutely rocking on Friday. Even the parking garage was packed!<\/p>\n

Those in attendance got to witness an instant classic. The Tigers got on the board first in the first inning. The Longhorns tied it up at 1-1 during the fourth inning. Neither team scored again until the ninth.<\/p>\n

Texas blew the door open with two runs in the top half to take a 3-1 lead. Auburn, the home team, loaded the bases with one out in the bottom half. Bristol Carter knocked a line drive right back up the middle to score at least one run. And then it got messy.<\/p>\n

Centerfielder Aiden Robbins<\/a> had already hit two solo home runs for the Longhorns at this point. He even shushed the crowd while rounding the bases in the top of the ninth inning.<\/p>\n

He very quickly went from the hero to the goat during the bottom of the ninth inning. Robbins could not handle Carter\u2019s bouncing base knock, which allowed the Tigers to clear the bases and win the game.<\/p>\n

It was electric.<\/p>\n

Unfortunately, an ill-advised throw to the plate spoiled the celebration.<\/p>\n

Texas shortstop Adrian Rodriguez acted out of anger.<\/p>\n

It was clear that Auburn was going to win the college baseball game as soon as the ball bounced past Robbins in centerfield. He had to turn his back to the infield to chase the ball to the warning track while the Tigers continued to run around the bases. There was no way to get the ball back to the infield in time to prevent the fourth run from scoring.<\/p>\n

That did not stop him from trying.<\/p>\n

Robbins threw to the cutoff man, shortstop Adrian Rodriguez. The run had already scored by the time Rodriguez was able to catch the ball in his glove and turn toward the plate. Auburn\u2019s dugout had already spilled onto the field to mob Carter in jubilation. He threw it anyway.<\/p>\n

The ball soared right into the middle of the celebration, where the entire team had gathered.<\/p>\n

There was no need for Rodriguez to make the throw. The game was over. It was not going to change the outcome. He only did so out of frustration with the loss.<\/p>\n

His decision to make the errant throw toward the celebrating Tigers put them all at risk of injury. What if the ball had hit one of the players in the head? Not cool.<\/p>\n
