The 20-year-old is currently ranked No. 2 on MLB’s official prospect rankings for the Red Sox, behind only Payton Tolle.

And it sounds like the Red Sox organization and its leaders also realize they have a bona fide talent on their hands in Arias.

Red Sox Senior Director of Player Development Brian Abraham recently heaped praise upon Arias in an interview with Monster Territory.

Arias has risen rapidly through Boston’s minor league system since signing out of Venezuela in January 2023 with a $525,000 bonus. He showed immediate promise in his debut that year in the Dominican Summer League, batting .350.

His 2024 performance elevated expectations. In the Florida Complex League, Arias posted a .355 average, .471 on-base percentage and .584 slugging percentage over 51 games, adding 30 stolen bases. He earned a promotion to Single-A Salem for further development.

The 2025 season confirmed his potential as he advanced quickly at age 19. After a strong start at Single-A Salem, Arias moved up to High-A Greenville and wrapped up with 10 contests at Double-A Portland. Over 116 games total, he batted .278 with 27 doubles, eight home runs and 66 RBIs. Known for elite defense at shortstop, Arias also stood out for his advanced plate discipline and low strikeout rate.

Arias joined major league spring training, starting at shortstop during March games and demonstrating his smooth fielding with standout double play execution. Projected to begin the regular season at Double-A Portland, Arias keeps building on his contact-oriented approach while adding strength to increase his extra-base power.

More MLB: Meet the New Red Sox: What’s Changed — and Why It Matters in 2026

Red Sox Director of Player Development Makes Stance Clear On Franklin Arias originally appeared on NESN.
