He was 84.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_blockParagraph__I2kr4\">Stahl played for the Kansas City A&#8217;s (1964-66), <a href=\"https:\/\/www.newsweek.com\/topic\/sports-mlb-mets\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">New York Mets<\/a> (1967-68), <a href=\"https:\/\/www.newsweek.com\/topic\/sports-mlb-padres\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">San Diego Padres<\/a> (1969-72) and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.newsweek.com\/topic\/sports-mlb-reds\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">Cincinnati Reds<\/a> (1973), seeing time at all three outfield positions and first base. He retired with a .232 batting average, 36 home runs, and 163 RBIs in 730 career games.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_blockParagraph__I2kr4\">More news: <a href=\"https:\/\/www.newsweek.com\/sports\/mlb\/red-sox-phillies-6-year-veteran-pitcher-dies-11670823\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">Red Sox, Phillies 6-Year Veteran Pitcher Dies<\/a><\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_blockParagraph__I2kr4\">A native of Belleville, Illinois, Stahl was most known for thwarting a perfect game in progress when the Padres were playing the Chicago Cubs <a href=\"https:\/\/sabr.org\/gamesproj\/game\/september-2-1972-a-strike-away-from-a-perfect-game-cubs-milt-pappas-settles-for-no-hitter\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">on Sept. 2, 1972.<\/a><\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_blockParagraph__I2kr4\">Cubs starting pitcher Milt Pappas retired the first 26 Padres hitters in a row before 11,144 fans in attendance at Wrigley Field.
