Opening Day is coming up this week, but the New York Yankees<\/a> and Washington Nationals<\/a> are staying busy.<\/p>\n

The Yanks and Nats completed a trade on Sunday to swap an infielder for a pitcher.<\/p>\n

The deal was reported by Andrew Golden of the Baltimore Banner on X<\/a>:<\/p>\n

“The Washington Nationals are acquiring INF Jorbit Vivas from the New York Yankees and sending pitching prospect Sean Paul Li\u00f1an back to New York, per sources.”<\/p>\n

Vivas, a 25-year old left-handed hitter who can play second base and third base, wasn’t going to make the Yankees’ Opening Day roster. So they chose to turn him into a different asset instead.<\/p>\n

Last season at the MLB level, Vivas got 56 at bats and had nine hits, a .161 batting average.<\/p>\n

Vivas played 100 games at Triple-A Scranton\/Wilkes-Barre in 2025 and hit .270 with 21 doubles, a triple and four home runs, along with 12 stolen bases.<\/p>\n

The pitcher the Yankees get in return is a right-hander, Sean Paul Linan, who is from Colombia.<\/p>\n

The 21-year old has reached High-A, first with the Dodgers and then spending the end of last season with the Nationals.<\/p>\n

He has a career 3.62 minor league ERA in 65 appearances, including 26 starts.<\/p>\n

Linan does have appeal as a strikeout guy, with 11.6 punchouts per nine innings in the minor leagues.<\/p>\n

The Yankees do a good job here of getting an arm with a bit of upside for a guy who wasn’t likely to be much of an MLB contributor this year anyway.<\/p>\n

The Nats must’ve felt their organization would benefit from some more infield depth, so Vivas goes their way.<\/p>\n
