The Toronto Blue Jays<\/a> clearly recognized a conundrum of modern baseball.<\/p>\n

Pitchers get hurt, often, and so you can never have too many arms on the roster.<\/p>\n

It may have looked after this offseason that the Blue Jays had way too many pitchers. And then this spring happened, and injuries struck left and right, and now Toronto looks brilliant for having so much depth.<\/p>\n

MLB.com wrote<\/a> in a new article that the Blue Jays have already learned that “no amount of pitching depth can ever be enough.”<\/p>\n

Shane Bieber, Jose Berrios and Trey Yesavage are already dealing with ailments.<\/p>\n

The Blue Jays still have healthy Kevin Gausman, Dylan Cease, Max Scherzer, Cody Ponce and Eric Lauer.<\/p>\n

“Over and over again, we\u2019ve been left to wonder where the Blue Jays\u2019 latest pitching addition will fit in,” MLB.com wrote in an article with no byline. “Each time, it takes care of itself. Max Scherzer\u2019s signing looked like complete excess at the time, but Shane Bieber has been delayed by\u00a0forearm fatigue\u00a0and Jos\u00e9 Berr\u00edos has run into\u00a0elbow issues. On top of that, Trey Yesavage will begin the season on the IL with a\u00a0right shoulder impingement. If we\u2019ve learned anything here, it\u2019s that the Blue Jays\u2019 rotation will take on a dozen different shapes as the year goes on. In a perfect world, they\u2019ll reach a point where 7-8 healthy starters are competing. For now, all of that excess depth is already saving the Blue Jays from what could have been an ugly situation.”<\/p>\n

Maybe there comes a point where everyone gets healthy at once and the Blue Jays have a good kind of problem.<\/p>\n

For now, they simply had the depth they needed to withstand any kind of major Opening Day worries.<\/p>\n

Toronto prepared for this moment, and now it’ll have a chance to hit the ground running when the season begins later this week.<\/p>\n
