C/DH Moises Ballesteros, Chicago Cubs![""]("https://www.rawchili.com/mlb/wp-content/uploads/2026/03/1eca7e069df3effec337aa1f853ab75e.jpeg"/)

Ballesteros got his first taste of the Majors in 2025. Most of last season was spent with AAA Iowa, where the lefty slashed .316/.385/.473 with 13 home runs and 76 RBI. During his 20 games with the Cubs, Ballesteros slashed .298/.394/.474 with two home runs and 11 RBI. His offensive production comes from his quick, controlled swing that allows him to consistently barrel the baseball. His struggle to throw out runners will limit his catching duties during the season. Outfielder Seiya Suzuki is set to start the season on the injured list, leaving Ballesteros as the frontrunner to start the season as Chicago’s everyday designated hitter.

C/1B Samuel Basallo, Baltimore Orioles

Basallo has etched his name into Baltimore’s Opening Day roster. The rookie is slashing .371/.450/.771 with three home runs and 11 RBI in Spring Training. He ended last season at AAA Norfolk, slashing .270/.377/.589 with 23 home runs and 67 RBI. Baltimore signed free agent first baseman Pete Alonso this offseason, and while he can be used to spell Alonso at first and Adley Rutschman at catcher, Basallo will open the season at DH. The Orioles are ready to put last season’s woes behind them, and Samuel Basallo’s powerful, left-handed swing will be a factor in the team’s 2026 success.

OF Owen Caissie, Miami Marlins

Caissie was the prized return in the offseason deal that sent starting pitcher Edward Cabrera to the Cubs. Last season, the outfielder earned a promotion to the Majors after slashing .286/.386/.551 with 22 home runs and 55 RBI at AAA. The rookie is a lock to open the season in Miami’s outfield. Caissie performed well for Team Canada in the World Baseball Classic, slashing .412/.476/.765 with one home run in 17 at-bats. The Marlins aren’t headed to the playoffs in 2026, but Caissie will be a bright spot for the foreseeable future.

SS/OF Konnor Griffin, Pittsburgh Pirates![""]("https://www.rawchili.com/mlb/wp-content/uploads/2026/03/fcff56b31e3067ac7287e499be5d722c.jpeg"/)

It’s rare for a 19-year-old to be ready for the Majors, but the top MLB prospect is the exception. During the 2025 season, Griffin slashed .333/.415/.527 with 21 home runs, 94 RBI, and 65 stolen bases. This spring, Griffin stated his case to be Pittsburgh’s Opening Day shortstop with four home runs, 9 RBI, and one stolen base. The Pirates tried extending their young superstar during spring training, but couldn’t reach a deal. Ensuring the extra years of control, Griffin will start 2026 at AAA Indianapolis. However, once this season has fewer than 172 remaining, the shortstop will be on a flight to Pittsburgh.

RHP Nolan McLean, New York Mets

McLean will open the season in New York’s starting rotation. Last season, in 113.2 innings, McLean posted a 2.45 ERA, 1.12 WHIP, and 127 strikeouts between AA and AAA. His performance in the minors led to a call-up with the Mets. In eight starts, the righty posted a 2.06 ERA, 1.04 WHIP, and 57 strikeouts in 48 innings. The rookie possesses the desired attributes in a front-line starting pitcher. His fastball sits in the mid-to-high 90s with excellent movement. Of his secondary offerings, his sweeper (slider) is elite and has great movement. The Mets need great production from their starting rotation, and Nolan McLean will be a key arm in 2026.
