{"id":642486,"date":"2026-03-25T12:26:40","date_gmt":"2026-03-25T12:26:40","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.rawchili.com\/mlb\/642486\/"},"modified":"2026-03-25T12:26:40","modified_gmt":"2026-03-25T12:26:40","slug":"brewers-opening-day-a-tradition-for-this-wisconsin-teacher","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.rawchili.com\/mlb\/642486\/","title":{"rendered":"Brewers&#8217; Opening Day a tradition for this Wisconsin teacher"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>NEW BERLIN, Wis. \u2014 Every baseball season, a Milwaukee-area math teacher splits her time between school and seating fans in the stands at American Family Field.<\/p>\n<p>Chris Viste\u00a0bounces\u00a0from calculus to the concourse before she is off for the summer,\u00a0and it all starts on Brewers\u2019 Opening Day.<\/p>\n<p>What You Need To Know<\/p>\n<p>Chris Viste has been a math teacher at New Berlin West\u00a0High School\u00a0for more than 30 years<br \/>\n<br \/>For nearly 10 years, she\u2019s also been working for the Milwaukee Brewers as an usher<br \/>\n<br \/>While teaching and being an usher are two very different jobs, she has found that both offer the opportunity to form strong bonds with the people you interact with<br \/>\n<br \/>Viste\u00a0has been able to help organize field trips for her students to Brewers games. She has also brought in\u00a0statisticians\u00a0who work for the Brewers\u00a0to speak with students about jobs\u00a0in the math field<\/p>\n<p>Viste has been a math teacher at New Berlin West\u00a0High School\u00a0for more than 30 years. For nearly 10 of\u00a0those years, she\u2019s also been working for the Milwaukee Brewers as an usher.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI just feel so fortunate to be able to do it,\u201d\u00a0said Viste, who typically works near Section 214 at the ballpark. \u201cTo go to the stadium every day, interact with the fans, see baseball, just be part of that atmosphere. The fact that we have a winning team and that makes the summer so enjoyable, that\u2019s just a bonus.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>When you walk into Viste\u2019s classroom,\u00a0there are signs everywhere\u00a0that\u00a0she is a\u00a0die-hard\u00a0Brewers fan.\u00a0There are\u00a0bobble heads, banners and rally towels\u00a0on display.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.rawchili.com\/mlb\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/03\/viste_4_megan_marshall_wi_0323.jpeg\" alt=\"\" class=\"hashed-image image\" img-data-alignment=\"right\" img-data-width=\"percent-fifty\" loading=\"lazy\" img-data-caption=\"(Spectrum News 1\/Megan Marshall)\" img-data-wrap-text=\"true\" img-data-editing=\"true\"\/><\/p>\n<p>(Spectrum News 1\/Megan Marshall)<\/p>\n<p>Viste takes a vacation day from school to work at the ballpark on Opening Day, but she makes sure her students are well-prepared. She has been busy getting her Advanced Placement calculus class ready for an upcoming test.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOpening Day is a holiday,\u201d Viste said. \u201cI\u2019m the person who at six in the morning is texting everyone,\u00a0\u2018Happy\u00a0Opening\u00a0Day!\u2019\u00a0I\u2019m just super excited to be a part of that atmosphere, and we get baseball every day again, so that\u2019s super exciting as well.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>While teaching and being an usher are two very different jobs, she has found that both offer the opportunity to form strong bonds with the people you interact with.<\/p>\n<p>Brewers season ticket holder, Heidi Belongia,\u00a0can affirm that. She\u00a0said she looks forward to seeing Viste at games every year.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.rawchili.com\/mlb\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/03\/viste_2_megan_marshall_wi_0323.jpeg\" alt=\"\" class=\"hashed-image image\" img-data-alignment=\"center\" img-data-width=\"percent-hundred\" loading=\"lazy\" img-data-caption=\"(Chris Viste)\" img-data-wrap-text=\"true\" img-data-editing=\"true\"\/><\/p>\n<p>(Chris Viste)<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAs far back as I can remember, she is always a welcoming face, calling\u00a0everybody by name, checking in to make sure everyone is doing OK,\u201d Belongia said. \u201cSo, it really is a little community.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>And Viste\u00a0has found a way to turn what happens at the ballpark into math equations on the blackboard. She often uses baseball game statistics for lessons in class.<\/p>\n<p>Viste\u00a0has been able to help organize field trips for her students to Brewers games.
