The Chicago White Sox<\/a> are one day away (March 26) from Opening Day. Right-hander Shane Smith<\/a> will square off against Milwaukee Brewers right-hander Jacob Misiorowski<\/a>. <\/p>\n

Despite the rosters not officially getting finalized, the White Sox made a bold move by adding 22-year-old right-hander Jedixson P\u00e1ez to the roster. According to BBWAA member Francys Romero, P\u00e1ez will be jumping straight from Single-A to the Major Leagues without playing in Double-A. <\/p>\n

P\u00e1ez struggled in seven games, posting a 6.35 ERA, walking five and striking out 11 in 11.1 innings. Between High-A and Single-A last season, P\u00e1ez had 5-4 with a 3.17 ERA and striking out 113 in 96.2 innings. A right calf strain sidelined P\u00e1ez for four months last season. <\/p>\n

The White Sox selected P\u00e1ez in the Rule 5 Draft from the Boston Red Sox this offseason. Being a Rule 5 pick, P\u00e1ez needed to make the Opening Day roster and spend the season with the White Sox, or get offered back to Boston.<\/p>\n

A starting pitcher by trade, P\u00e1ez will work out of manager Will Venable\u2019s bullpen. Smith, right-handers Sean Burke, Erick Fedde, and Davis Martin and left-hander Anthony Kay will initially be in the starting rotation. <\/p>\n

Given his starting experience, P\u00e1ez could fill in the rotation in case of injury or spot start. P\u00e1ez could also give Venable length in the bullpen if there\u2019s a need. <\/p>\n

The young right-hander will join right-handers Grant Taylor, Seranthony Dominguez, Jordan Hicks, and Jordan Leasure, along with left-handers Sean Newcomb and Chris Murphy in the bullpen.\u00a0<\/p>\n

P\u00e1ez is the White Sox\u2019s 19th-ranked prospect<\/a> and has a three-pitch mix. P\u00e1ez throws a four-seam fastball (45\/80 grade), a slider (50\/80) and a changeup (55\/80). <\/p>\n

Despite having below-average stuff, P\u00e1ez has exceptional control of his arsenal \u2014 grading out at a 70\/80. P\u00e1ez has also started experimenting with a cutter.<\/p>\n
