{"id":644164,"date":"2026-03-26T08:48:30","date_gmt":"2026-03-26T08:48:30","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.rawchili.com\/mlb\/644164\/"},"modified":"2026-03-26T08:48:30","modified_gmt":"2026-03-26T08:48:30","slug":"aaron-judge-strikes-out-four-times-in-yankees-opener","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.rawchili.com\/mlb\/644164\/","title":{"rendered":"Aaron Judge strikes out four times in Yankees opener"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>SAN FRANCISCO \u2014 Aaron Judge\u2019s season began with him being booed by the home crowd at Oracle Park during pregame introductions, and then getting it even more prior to his first at-bat.<\/p>\n<p>And his night \u2014 aside from<a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2026\/03\/25\/sports\/max-frieds-gem-second-inning-outburst-lead-yankees-to-opening-day-win\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\"> the lopsided 7-0 Yankees win over the Giants<\/a> \u2014 only got worse.<\/p>\n<p>Judge, who grew up a Giants fan in nearby Linden, Calif., struck out in the first inning, again in the second, one more time in the fourth and again in the sixth.<\/p>\n<p>Over the course of his second straight AL MVP season a year ago, Judge didn\u2019t strike out four times in a game even once.<\/p>\n<p>He did it five times in 2024, when he also won MVP.<\/p>\n<p>The outcome will no doubt soon be forgotten, perhaps even as soon as Friday if Judge tees off on left-hander Robbie Ray, but for one night, he looked mortal.<\/p>\n<p>And it came after Judge took part in the WBC for Team USA and went 6-for-27.<\/p>\n<p>The Yankees were most pleased this spring with how Judge bounced back from the flexor strain in his right elbow that landed him on the IL last year and impacted his throwing the rest of the season.<\/p>\n<p><img style=\"aspect-ratio:1.42222222;display:block\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" data-modal-image=\"38897366\" width=\"839\" height=\"590\" src=\"https:\/\/www.rawchili.com\/mlb\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/03\/03-25-26-san-francisco-124405865_4f999c.jpg\" alt=\"Aaron Judge of the New York Yankees reacts after striking out for the fourth time.\" class=\"wp-image-38897366\"  \/>Yankees right fielder Aaron Judge (99) reacts after he strikes out for the fourth time during the sixth inning on Opening Day.<br \/>Charles Wenzelberg\/New York Post<\/p>\n<p>He\u2019s shown no ill effects from that injury and made an especially strong throw to third during a WBC game that proved his arm strength was completely back.<\/p>\n<p>But in previous seasons \u2014 certainly not in 2025 \u2014 Judge has gotten off to sluggish starts.<\/p>\n<p>In his MVP season two years ago, he had a .754 OPS after the first month of the year before rebounding with a sizzling May and June.<\/p>\n<p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\tGo beyond the box score with the Bombers\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/p>\n<p class=\"inline-module__cta\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\tSign up for Inside the Yankees by Greg Joyce, exclusively on Sports+.\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/p>\n<p>\t\t\t\t\t\tThank you\n\t\t\t\t<\/p>\n<p>Heading into Wednesday\u2019s game, Judge had excellent numbers against San Francisco ace Logan Webb, going 3-for-7 with a pair of homers, two walks and three strikeouts.<\/p>\n<p>On Wednesday, he whiffed swinging in his first at-bat and looking in the second, stranding Trent Grisham at third.<\/p>\n<p>He left a pair of runners on base when he struck out to end the top of the fourth, and he was caught looking again in the sixth.<\/p>\n<p><img style=\"aspect-ratio:1.35809019;display:block\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" data-modal-image=\"38897392\" width=\"801\" height=\"590\" src=\"https:\/\/www.rawchili.com\/mlb\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/03\/new-york-yankees-right-fielder-124410122.jpg\" alt=\"New York Yankees players Aaron Judge (99) and Jazz Chisholm Jr. (13) jumping to celebrate.\" class=\"wp-image-38897392\"  \/>Yankees right fielder Aaron Judge (99) greets New York Yankees second baseman Jazz Chisholm Jr. (13) after the final out of the 9th inning. The New York Yankees defeat the San Francisco Giants 7-0.<br \/>\n Charles Wenzelberg\/New York Post<\/p>\n<p>Judge put the ball in play in the ninth with a groundout to third, but he was the only Yankee without a hit in the season-opening win.<\/p>\n<p>If it\u2019s any consolation, Judge heads into Friday\u2019s game 3-for-8 lifetime against the lefty Ray.
