{"id":645460,"date":"2026-03-26T23:23:23","date_gmt":"2026-03-26T23:23:23","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.rawchili.com\/mlb\/645460\/"},"modified":"2026-03-26T23:23:23","modified_gmt":"2026-03-26T23:23:23","slug":"padres-open-mlb-season-with-loss-to-tigers-nbc-7-san-diego","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.rawchili.com\/mlb\/645460\/","title":{"rendered":"Padres open MLB season with loss to Tigers \u2013 NBC 7 San Diego"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>It didn&#8217;t take long for the energy and excitement of Opening Day inside a sold-out Petco Park to droop a little.<\/p>\n<p>Shortly after all the pregame pageantry that comes with Major League Baseball Opening Day, the Detroit Tigers scored four runs against the San Diego Padres in the top of the first inning.<\/p>\n<p>Padres starting pitcher Nick Pivetta was not sharp to start the game. Pivetta walked three batters, gave up two hits and allowed four first-inning runs, putting the Padres in a 4-0 hole.<\/p>\n<p>In the third, the Tigers once again pushed runs across home plate, as Parker Meadows&#8217; soft single to left field scored two more runs, making it 6-0 Detroit.<\/p>\n<p>Pivetta threw 69 pitches in the first three innings. Ron Marinaccio came on in relief. After a scoreless fourth inning, he gave up a two-run homer to Dillon Dingler, making it 8-0 Tigers.
