{"id":645764,"date":"2026-03-27T03:22:25","date_gmt":"2026-03-27T03:22:25","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.rawchili.com\/mlb\/645764\/"},"modified":"2026-03-27T03:22:25","modified_gmt":"2026-03-27T03:22:25","slug":"freddy-peralta-delivered-mixed-results-in-his-mets-debut","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.rawchili.com\/mlb\/645764\/","title":{"rendered":"Freddy Peralta delivered mixed results in his Mets debut"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Freddy Peralta avoided walks and had the Pirates swinging and missing, but two homers allowed ultimately turned what could have been a special Mets debut into something ordinary.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Twice, Brandon Lowe homered against him. <\/p>\n<p>That accounted for three of the four runs Peralta surrendered in the Mets\u2019 <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2026\/03\/26\/sports\/what-stood-out-from-mets-nearly-perfect-opening-day\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">11-7 victory in the season opener at Citi Field<\/a>.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI don\u2019t see the first one as a mistake, but it\u2019s part of the game,\u201d Peralta said of the curveball that Lowe lofted just beyond Carson Benge\u2019s outstretched glove above the right field fence. \u201cThe other one, yeah, it was a mistake.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Peralta allowed four earned runs on six hits with seven strikeouts over five innings. Corey Sipkin for the NY POST<\/p>\n<p>The ace right-hander, who arrived in a January trade with the Brewers, appeared loose heading into his start, according to Carlos Mendoza.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s still the same smile when he came from the bullpen, right before he took the field,\u201d Mendoza said. \u201cThat\u2019s what impressed me the most. You see his personality and it\u2019s Opening Day, he\u2019s about to take the field and he\u2019s got a smile on his face, so he\u2019s used to it.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Peralta was thankful the Mets lineup responded, scoring five runs in the first inning against Paul Skenes, who was removed after 37 pitches in the frame.
