Though the Colts didn&#8217;t get above .500, they did earn a new, permanent nickname that season thanks to the Chicago Daily News \u2014 the Chicago Cubs. (Chicago Tribune)<\/p>\n<p>1902: Though commonly referred to as the \u201cColts\u201d by the Tribune, the Chicago Daily News was credited with giving the North Side baseball team its nickname \u2014 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.mlb.com\/news\/chicago-cubs-team-name-origin\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Chicago Cubs<\/a>.
