Blue Jays 1B Vladimir Guerrero Jr. is \u201clocked up through the next decade.\u201d The leadership group of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sportsbusinessjournal.com\/Articles\/2025\/12\/12\/blue-jays-president-ceo-mark-shapiro-gets-five-year-extension\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.sportsbusinessjournal.com\/Articles\/2025\/12\/12\/blue-jays-president-ceo-mark-shapiro-gets-five-year-extension\/\">President &amp; CEO Mark Shapiro<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sportsbusinessjournal.com\/Articles\/2026\/03\/24\/blue-jays-betting-for-stability-in-extending-atkins-schneider-after-world-series-run\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.sportsbusinessjournal.com\/Articles\/2026\/03\/24\/blue-jays-betting-for-stability-in-extending-atkins-schneider-after-world-series-run\/\">GM Ross Atkins and manager John Schneider<\/a> is \u201cin place for years to come\u201d and there is \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.sportsbusinessjournal.com\/Articles\/2026\/02\/23\/edward-rogers-and-rogers-communications-have-cornered-the-market-on-sports-in-north-americas-fourth-largest-city\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.sportsbusinessjournal.com\/Articles\/2026\/02\/23\/edward-rogers-and-rogers-communications-have-cornered-the-market-on-sports-in-north-americas-fourth-largest-city\/\">crucial organizational alignment above and below them<\/a>.\u201d The club enters the season \u201cprojecting a top-five Competitive Balance Tax payroll, spending at a level that would have been fantasy a decade ago.\u201d Making that \u201csustainable is Rogers Centre, with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sportsbusinessjournal.com\/Articles\/2025\/06\/02\/this-weeks-sbj-the-remaking-of-torontos-rogers-centre\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.sportsbusinessjournal.com\/Articles\/2025\/06\/02\/this-weeks-sbj-the-remaking-of-torontos-rogers-centre\/\">its third renovation<\/a> unveiled Wednesday, a venue now leveraged by both players and fans, capable of generating revenue at a level competitive with their prime rivals and viable for the foreseeable future.\u201d There is a \u201ccase to be made that the franchise is on its best footing since the 1992-93 World Series years.\u201d The Jays are heading into <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sportsbusinessjournal.com\/Articles\/2026\/01\/21\/mlb-franchise-notes-blue-jays-unveil-50th-anniversary-commemorative-patch\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.sportsbusinessjournal.com\/Articles\/2026\/01\/21\/mlb-franchise-notes-blue-jays-unveil-50th-anniversary-commemorative-patch\/\">a year-long 50th-season celebration<\/a>, coming off the club\u2019s best year since 1993, with a roster \u201clegitimately capable of going on another\u201d World Series run (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.sportsnet.ca\/mlb\/article\/blue-jays-enter-2026-season-on-stable-footing-even-as-labour-uncertainty-looms\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.sportsnet.ca\/mlb\/article\/blue-jays-enter-2026-season-on-stable-footing-even-as-labour-uncertainty-looms\/\">SPORTSNET.ca, 3\/25<\/a>).<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph sections-franchises \">CREDIT DUE: In Toronto, Gregor Chisholm wrote the Jays \u201ccan sign high-priced talent because of a high payroll, but Shapiro deserves credit for convincing Rogers Communications to open its wallet.\u201d Before his arrival, payroll was a \u201cfrequent topic because the level of support from ownership varied from one year to the next.\u201d This season, questions about resources \u201cbarely seem relevant.\u201d It is \u201cstarting to become a given that the Jays are willing to be perennial taxpayers, consistently blowing past the league\u2019s competitive balance tax thresholds to keep their championship window open.\u201d Shapiro said, \u201cWe have a budget. &#8230; But we are also given a clear mandate from (Rogers) to make this club meaningfully better.\u201d Chisholm wrote Shapiro has \u201cproved quite adept at extracting resources from his bosses.\u201d Their faith in him has been \u201crewarded with record television ratings and frequent sellouts.\u201d It is the \u201ctype of foundation that should allow the Jays to consistently remain among MLB\u2019s biggest spenders\u201d (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.thestar.com\/sports\/blue-jays\/mark-shapiros-biggest-wins-happen-off-the-field-the-blue-jays-cant-win-without-them\/article_46428971-1423-4460-8bab-e9cfaab682e9.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.thestar.com\/sports\/blue-jays\/mark-shapiros-biggest-wins-happen-off-the-field-the-blue-jays-cant-win-without-them\/article_46428971-1423-4460-8bab-e9cfaab682e9.html\">TORONTO STAR, 3\/25<\/a>). <\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph sections-franchises \">FURTHER UPGRADES: With the biggest renovations at Rogers Centre now complete, Shapiro said that the Jays \u201ccould look at some smaller-scale upgrades, such as freshening up\u201d the ballpark\u2019s suites and \u201cadding a bigger kids\u2019 area.\u201d SPORTSNET.ca\u2019s Ben Nicholson-Smith noted eventually, a discussion about the ballpark\u2019s \u201clong-term future will be necessary, but that\u2019s likely \u2018a good 15 years\u2019 away.\u201d Shapiro said that \u201call options would have to be considered, including an even larger-scale renovation of Rogers Centre or building an entirely new\u201d ballpark on the same site. The club will unveil an outdoor statue on July 18 to \u201ccommemorate the 1992 and 1993 World Series winners.\u201d A \u201cspecial corner has been created on the 100-level concourse with a memorabilia display.\u201d Space in the right-field concourse has been \u201creserved for the Hall of Excellence,\u201d to be unveiled Aug. 29 with retired broadcaster Buck Martinez as the first inductee. A new premium club on the 200 level, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sportsbusinessjournal.com\/Articles\/2026\/03\/11\/rogers-centre-unveils-premium-rogers-terrace-for-blue-jays-50th-season\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.sportsbusinessjournal.com\/Articles\/2026\/03\/11\/rogers-centre-unveils-premium-rogers-terrace-for-blue-jays-50th-season\/\">the Rogers Terrace<\/a>, will seat 1,050 with a patio extension.
