Chris Sale leads the rotation and signed a two-year extension, but Atlanta is without AJ Smith-Shawver and Joey Wentz for the season, and opens the season with starters Spencer Schwellenbach, Hurston Waldrep, and Spencer Strider on the injured list. The Braves re-signed free agent closer Raisel Iglesias and shortstop Ha-Seong Kim while also adding National League saves leader Robert Suarez in free agency.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_blockParagraph__I2kr4\">Sale gets the call for Atlanta on opening night after posting a 2.58 ERA and 1.066 WHIP with 165 strikeouts in 125.2 innings in an injury-shortened 2025 season. Left-hander Cole Ragans also struggled with health last season, making only 13 starts for the Royals with a 4.67 ERA and 1.184 WHIP to go with 98 strikeouts in 61.2 innings.
