{"id":64790,"date":"2025-05-29T22:37:13","date_gmt":"2025-05-29T22:37:13","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.rawchili.com\/mlb\/64790\/"},"modified":"2025-05-29T22:37:13","modified_gmt":"2025-05-29T22:37:13","slug":"red-sox-prospect-skyrockets-into-top-10-of-keith-laws-rankings","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.rawchili.com\/mlb\/64790\/","title":{"rendered":"Red Sox Prospect Skyrockets Into Top 10 Of Keith Law&#8217;s Rankings"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Franklin Arias might not get the same level of hype some of the other Red Sox prospects have received in recent years, but that might already be changing.<\/p>\n<p>The shortstop should probably start being included in the same breath as Boston prospects who haven\u2019t yet graduated to the big leagues like Roman Anthony or <a href=\"https:\/\/nesn.com\/2025\/05\/mlb-insider-gives-fascinating-red-sox-prospect-stamp-of-approval\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">Jhostynxon Garcia<\/a>. Keith Law, one of the best-known prospect experts in baseball, sure thinks so, at least.<\/p>\n<p>Law <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/athletic\/6385849\/2025\/05\/29\/mlb-top-50-prospects-2025-roman-anthony\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">released his latest prospect rankings<\/a> \u2014 a top 50 through the first two months of the season \u2014 and no one took a bigger leap than Arias. The shortstop, who was ranked No. 42 on Law\u2019s preseason rankings, landed at No. 8 on this most recent list.<\/p>\n<p>More Red Sox<\/p>\n<p>\t\t\t\t<a href=\"https:\/\/nesn.com\/2025\/03\/franklin-arias-red-sox-prospect-outlook-scouting-report-2025\/\" class=\"featured-articles__link\" data-analytics-datalayer-category-type=\"MutlipleArticle_\" wp_automatic_readability=\"26\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\"><\/p>\n<p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.rawchili.com\/mlb\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/04\/Franklin-Arias.jpeg\" alt=\"\"\/><\/p>\n<p>\t\t\t\t\t\tThis \u2018Legitimate\u2019 Red Sox Prospect Could Be Boston\u2019s Next \u2018Hidden Gem\u2019<\/p>\n<p>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\tby Tim Crowley<br \/>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t4 Min Read\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/p>\n<p>\t\t\t\t<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe\u2019s a true shortstop, he doesn\u2019t punch out (8.3 percent at the higher level), and he has power. It\u2019s electric on both sides of the ball and if there\u2019s a flaw in his game, pitchers through the High-A level haven\u2019t exposed it yet,\u201d Law wrote for The Athletic.<\/p>\n<p>Law expressed some slight concern over a high ground ball rate, but he added, \u201che\u2019s also driving enough balls to get some in-game power.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"nesn-in-content-ad__copy\">Story continues below advertisement<\/p>\n<p>At just 19, Arias obviously has a long way to go before he reaches the big leagues. That might be part of the reason he doesn\u2019t have the same hype as the others, at least not yet. But as Law noted, the production at each level has been undeniable. In 165 professional games across multiple levels, Arias is hitting .329 with 12 home runs and 95 RBIs while also stealing 45 bases. There\u2019s not a ton of swing and miss (100 strikeouts), and he can work a walk, too, drawing 82 free passes.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p>Arias has been a stud since getting the promotion to High-A Greenville, too. He\u2019s hitting .351 with a pair of home runs and 17 runs driven in over just 22 games. That he\u2019s doing that despite being three years younger than the average High-A player is notable, too.<\/p>\n<p>Defensively, he has at least held his own.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cConfident fielder who can make difficult plays look close to routine,\u201d SoxProspects.com <a href=\"https:\/\/soxprospects.com\/players\/arias-franklin.htm\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">writes in his scouting report<\/a>. \u201cScouts have mixed opinions on whether he can stick at shortstop long-term. Potential above-average defender at second and average defender at shortstop.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"nesn-in-content-ad__copy\">Story continues below advertisement<\/p>\n<p>The Red Sox have a pressing need and desire to improve at the big league level right now. At some point, talking about prospects only goes so far, and Arias certainly won\u2019t be the one to save the day on the 2025 season.
