The Seattle Mariners are planning to move their Wednesday, Sept. 9, home game against the Texas Rangers to the afternoon to accommodate the Super Bowl champion Seattle Seahawks hosting the NFL\u2019s 2026 season kickoff game<\/a> across the street that same night.<\/p>\n

First pitch for the Sept. 9 Mariners-Rangers game was slated for 6:40 p.m. at T-Mobile Park, but M\u2019s president of business operations Kevin Martinez told Seattle Sports\u2019 Wyman and Bob<\/a> on Thursday that the M\u2019s are planning to move first pitch to the afternoon.<\/p>\n

Martinez said the Mariners are awaiting approval from the city of Seattle.<\/p>\n

News of the potential schedule change comes after the Seahawks announced Wednesday that they will host the NFL\u2019s 2026 season kickoff game at 5:20 p.m. on Sept. 9.<\/p>\n

The reigning Super Bowl champs typically kick off the NFL season on a Thursday night, which this year would have fallen on Sept. 10.<\/p>\n

However, this year\u2019s season-opening NFL game was moved to Wednesday, Sept. 9, due to the Los Angeles Rams and San Francisco 49ers playing Thursday, Sept. 10, in Melbourne, Australia, in the league\u2019s first-ever game Down Under.<\/p>\n

Martinez said the Seahawks contacted the Mariners asking if they would be willing to move their Sept. 9 game to the afternoon, and the M\u2019s obliged.<\/p>\n

\u201cI think it would be an incredible day of sports in Seattle, because if we\u2019re doing what we think we\u2019re doing, that Wednesday afternoon will be a meaningful game against the Texas Rangers,\u201d Martinez said.<\/p>\n

\u201cAnd then to be able to walk across the street after the Mariners take care of the Rangers and watch the Hawks unveil a Super Bowl champion banner and get after it, that\u2019s gonna be a pretty memorable day in Seattle as well.\u201d<\/p>\n
