The Atlanta Braves<\/a> made a last-minute decision to sign Dominic Smith, a former rival of the organization. This year, he earned a spot on the Braves\u2019 Opening Day roster. On Saturday night, Smith proved exactly why the Braves gave him one of the final spots, hitting a walk-off home run just weeks after his mother passed away.<\/a><\/p>\n

\u201cBraves Dominic Smith revealed tonight’s game was extra emotional. He lost his mother to cancer two weeks ago. The fan who caught the walk-off grand slam ball returned it to Smith,\u201d Grant McAuley posted.<\/p>\n

The grand slam sent all of Truist Park into a frenzy. After eight quiet innings, the ninth erupted into a moment that the organization and fans will remember for years. It was also historic.<\/p>\n

Despite the triumph, there\u2019s still speculation that Smith could be moved once the Braves are fully healthy.<\/p>\n

Smith has a spot somewhere for him in the big leagues as a sturdy lefty bat, it just won’t be with the Braves for the entirety of this season.\u201d<\/p>\n

If Smith can keep his bat hot, the veteran could continue to make an impact\u2014but if his performance drops to average, his future in Atlanta may be limited. The Braves are certainly happy with what he\u2019s doing right now.<\/p>\n

However, with players like Sean Murphy and Ha-Seong Kim returning from injury soon, Smith\u2019s continued contribution will be key if he wants to maintain his spot.<\/p>\n
