{"id":650178,"date":"2026-03-29T08:57:30","date_gmt":"2026-03-29T08:57:30","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.rawchili.com\/mlb\/650178\/"},"modified":"2026-03-29T08:57:30","modified_gmt":"2026-03-29T08:57:30","slug":"aaron-judges-singular-focus-is-clear-and-its-not-more-mvps","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.rawchili.com\/mlb\/650178\/","title":{"rendered":"Aaron Judge&#8217;s singular focus is clear \u2014 and it&#8217;s not more MVPs"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>SAN FRANCISCO \u2014 Through the first three games of this season, only last year\u2019s home run champ, Seattle\u2019s Cal Raleigh, struck out more times than Aaron Judge.<\/p>\n<p>And Judge has just two hits so far in 2026.<\/p>\n<p>But both of those hits have been home runs in Yankees\u2019 wins \u2014 including in <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2026\/03\/28\/sports\/yankees-use-dominant-pitching-timely-hitting-in-sweep-of-giants\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Saturday\u2019s 3-1 victory over the Giants <\/a>at Oracle Park.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s early in the season,\u2019\u2019 Aaron Boone said. \u201cHe\u2019s kind of finding it. He\u2019s not like anyone else. His hits have been two big home runs. Like I\u2019ve said, he\u2019s playing a different game.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>One that\u2019s seen him now hit 370 home runs in his career, tied for 83rd all-time with Gil Hodges.<\/p>\n<p>He also passed another New York home run legend on Saturday, Ralph Kiner, who hit 369 homers in his career.<\/p>\n<p>The next on the list is \u2014 oddly enough \u2014 Judge\u2019s current teammate, Paul Goldschmidt, with 372 and counting.<\/p>\n<p>But regardless of how many home runs Judge hits or awards he earns, the right fielder is interested in only one number: one.<\/p>\n<p>He\u2019s still waiting for his first World Series title and that remains at the forefront of his mind, as he explained before Saturday\u2019s victory.<\/p>\n<p><img style=\"aspect-ratio:1.49926794;display:block\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" data-modal-image=\"38928035\" width=\"885\" height=\"590\" src=\"https:\/\/www.rawchili.com\/mlb\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/03\/Aaron-Judge-2-1.jpg\" alt=\"Aaron Judge is all smiles after hitting a solo home run in the fifth inning of the Yankees' 3-1 win over the Giants at Oracle Park on March 28, 2026 in San Francisco.\" class=\"wp-image-38928035\"  \/>Aaron Judge is all smiles after hitting a solo home run in the fifth inning of the Yankees\u2019 3-1 win over the Giants at Oracle Park on March 28, 2026 in San Francisco. Getty Images<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMy job is not to win MVPs,\u201d Judge said. \u201cIt\u2019s to win games. The MVPs and other things are cool and when I\u2019m done playing, I\u2019ll think about that. But now, doing that takes away from the ultimate goal of putting the Yankees back on top. Counting those other things and worrying about that doesn\u2019t help.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Instead, Judge focuses on what\u2019s left for him to accomplish.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI only think about the stuff I\u2019ve missed out on,\u2019\u2019 Judge said. \u201cThat\u2019s all that matters every year. It\u2019s not All-Star games or MVPs. AP<\/p>\n<p>A few wins in March won\u2019t change it, either, though it\u2019s better than the alternative, especially with the Yankees now 6-0 in Judge\u2019s career at his hometown ballpark.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe good stuff is fine, but the disappointments are what drive you,\u2019\u2019 Judge said.<\/p>\n<p>He insisted that remains the case in his 11th major league season.<\/p>\n<p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\tGo beyond the box score with the Bombers\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/p>\n<p class=\"inline-module__cta\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\tSign up for Inside the Yankees by Greg Joyce, exclusively on Sports+.\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/p>\n<p>\t\t\t\t\t\tThank you\n\t\t\t\t<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019ve been the same when it comes to that since my rookie year and we lost the ALCS,\u2019\u2019 Judge said. \u201cA loss is a loss, regardless of where you are in your career. It doesn\u2019t matter what happened during the regular season.
