{"id":650541,"date":"2026-03-29T14:12:28","date_gmt":"2026-03-29T14:12:28","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.rawchili.com\/mlb\/650541\/"},"modified":"2026-03-29T14:12:28","modified_gmt":"2026-03-29T14:12:28","slug":"damn-crowd-is-too-damn-loud","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.rawchili.com\/mlb\/650541\/","title":{"rendered":"&#8216;Damn crowd is too damn loud&#8217;"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The debut season of the Automated Ball-Strike (ABS) Challenge System in Major League Baseball led to <a href=\"https:\/\/awfulannouncing.com\/mlb\/hot-mic-catches-umpire-bill-miller-hoping-abs-overturns-call.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">a funny moment involving an umpire and a hot mic<\/a> during spring training last Saturday, and it produced more comedy during a regular-season game between the Washington Nationals and Chicago Cubs on Saturday at Wrigley Field.<\/p>\n<p>As Nico Hoerner stole second base for the Cubs with Dansby Swanson at the plate in the second inning, home plate umpire Jim Wolf thought that Nats catcher Drew Millas had asked to challenge the pitch from Miles Mikolas, which was ruled a ball.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe catcher is challenging the \u2018ball\u2019 call,\u201d Wolf announced to everyone at Wrigley Field, as heard on the Marquee Sports Network broadcast.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOh, no, no, no,\u201d Millas told Wolf, indicating that he did not actually want to challenge the pitch.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWait, what\u2019d you say?\u201d Wolf replied to Millas, his mic still loud and clear.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cCancel that (challenge),\u201d Wolf announced.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI thought you said check that,\u201d Wolf explained to Millas.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cDamn crowd is too damn loud,\u201d Wolf added.<\/p>\n<p>And that led to a big laugh from Cubs play-by-play announcer Jon \u201cBoog\u201d Sciambi alongside Jim Deshaies in the Marquee booth.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\" lang=\"en\">Here\u2019s the clip of umpire saying Damn crowd is too loud <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/mqQJVsA1PA\" rel=\"nofollow\">https:\/\/t.co\/mqQJVsA1PA<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/qGNBie9ZLb\" rel=\"nofollow\">pic.twitter.com\/qGNBie9ZLb<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Explaining the Cubs (@explaincubs) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/explaincubs\/status\/2037964439337541789?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">March 28, 2026<\/a><\/p>\n<p>There were three challenges in the game, and all three were overturned.<\/p>\n<p>The ABS will create plenty of hilarious moments throughout the 2026 MLB season as umpires, players, and managers work through getting comfortable with the new system.
