Jade Gainer added a double and a run, while Chloe Lackey contributed an RBI-producing swing.<\/p>\n<p>Samford struck early with a pair of runs in both the first and second innings, highlighted by a two\u2011run homer in the opening frame. Chattanooga chipped away in the third when Zoe Wright reached on an error and later scored on a wild pitch, cutting the deficit to 4\u20131.<\/p>\n<p>UTC clawed closer in the fifth, using Gainer\u2019s leadoff double to spark a two\u2011run inning. Cowart singled home Gainer, stole second and advanced to third, then scored on a sacrifice fly from Annika Segedi to make it 7\u20133.<\/p>\n<p>Lackey drove in another run in the sixth, reaching on an error that allowed Izzy Carlyle to score and make it a 7\u20134 ballgame.<\/p>\n<p>Samford responded with three runs in the bottom half of the inning, including a three\u2011run homer that extended the Bulldogs\u2019 lead to six.<\/p>\n<p>Freshman Emery Bales threw 4.1 innings in relief for the Mocs, allowing seven runs (six earned) while striking out one.
