{"id":652827,"date":"2026-03-30T17:17:23","date_gmt":"2026-03-30T17:17:23","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.rawchili.com\/mlb\/652827\/"},"modified":"2026-03-30T17:17:23","modified_gmt":"2026-03-30T17:17:23","slug":"cubs-star-nico-hoerner-reveals-first-thoughts-on-extension-no-trade-clause","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.rawchili.com\/mlb\/652827\/","title":{"rendered":"Cubs Star Nico Hoerner Reveals First Thoughts on Extension &#038; No-Trade Clause"},"content":{"rendered":"<p id=\"inline-text-0\" class=\"mt-[18px] md:mt-0 mb-[18px] [&amp;_a]:text-primary my-f-1.5\" q:key=\"0\" q:id=\"6g\">The Chicago Cubs made some huge headlines over the last week by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.si.com\/mlb\/cubs\/onsi\/every-move-cubs-made-in-488m-winter-from-alex-bregman-to-nico-hoerner\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">locking up not just one<\/a>, but two of their critical stars who look like core pieces moving forward for the foreseeable future.<\/p>\n<p id=\"inline-text-1\" class=\"my-[18px] [&amp;_a]:text-primary my-f-1.5\" q:key=\"0\" q:id=\"6j\">While the Pete Crow-Armstrong extension felt inevitable, Chicago retaining Nico Hoerner on a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.si.com\/mlb\/cubs\/onsi\/news\/contract-details-emerge-on-nico-hoerner-cubs-extension\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">six-year deal came a little<\/a> bit out of nowhere at the start of his final year under team control with the Cubs.<\/p>\n<p id=\"inline-text-2\" class=\"my-[18px] [&amp;_a]:text-primary my-f-1.5\" q:key=\"0\" q:id=\"6m\">Hoerner was always going to be seen as tricky to retain, coming off an offseason full of trade rumors, and now Chicago has locked up multiple infield core pieces for at least the next half-decade.<\/p>\n<p id=\"inline-text-3\" class=\"my-[18px] [&amp;_a]:text-primary my-f-1.5\" q:key=\"0\" q:id=\"6p\">During a press conference announcing the deal \u2014 which includes a no-trade clause \u2014 Hoerner spoke for the first time about what it means to him to be signing on to keep playing in Wrigley Field for potentially his remaining productive years.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.rawchili.com\/mlb\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/03\/01kmzt1hz4rj3dyjw6k8.jpg\" alt=\"Chicago Cubs second baseman Nico Hoerner throwing ball to first bas\" title=\"Chicago Cubs second baseman Nico Hoerner throwing ball to first bas\" width=\"6980\" height=\"3926\" class=\"undefined w-full w-full blur-[5px]\" q:id=\"6z\"\/><\/p>\n<p>Chicago Cubs second baseman Nico Hoerner | Patrick Gorski-Imagn Images<\/p>\n<p>Hoerner thrilled to remain with Cubs for long haul<\/p>\n<p id=\"inline-text-6\" class=\"my-[18px] [&amp;_a]:text-primary my-f-1.5\" q:key=\"0\" q:id=\"76\">&#8220;You talk about seven years of commitment and it\u2019s a decision that goes very far outside of yourself (like) picturing potentially having a family in those years,&#8221; Hoerner said <a href=\"https:\/\/www.chicagotribune.com\/2026\/03\/29\/chicago-cubs-nico-hoerner-no-trade-clause\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">via the Chicago Tribune<\/a> (subscription required).<\/p>\n<p id=\"inline-text-7\" class=\"my-[18px] [&amp;_a]:text-primary my-f-1.5\" q:key=\"0\" q:id=\"79\">\u201cAnd there\u2019s a whole lot of things that, in a good way, brought up good, challenging conversations and I think it just kind of helps get exercise for understanding your values and being in a place where I feel valued as a player, but as a person.
