The offseason saw the Toronto Blue Jays<\/a> make many high-impact free agent signings.<\/p>\n

But outside of veteran Tyler Rogers, the bullpen was not a major focus of the winter for the front office. Spring training is one of the better times for scouts to eye non-roster invites with other clubs, and the Blue Jays are taking a flier on a veteran.<\/p>\n

Right-hander Austin Voth signed a minor league contract with Toronto<\/a> on Monday. The Chicago White Sox<\/a> released the 33-year-old after he spent spring training with the AL Central club.<\/p>\n

This move comes at low risk and little cost to the Blue Jays, who have Yimi Garcia on the 15-day injured list <\/a>to open the season.<\/p>\n

Blue Jays sign seven-year veteran<\/p>\n

Voth spent last season in Japan with Nippon Professional Baseball’s Chiba Lotte Marines. He posted a 3.96 ERA<\/a> in 125 innings, striking out 92 while displaying good command (28 walks).<\/p>\n

Before signing with the Blue Jays, Voth’s career included stints with the Washington Nationals<\/a> (2018-22), Baltimore Orioles<\/a> (2022-23), and the Seattle Mariners<\/a> (2024).<\/p>\n

He’s made 39 starts in 207 career appearances, so Voth can work as a swingman for the Blue Jays if they decide to promote him at any point this season. Voth made 17 starts in his 22 outings in 2022 with the Orioles.<\/p>\n
