The Tampa Bay Rays<\/a> play in one of the most competitive divisions in all of baseball, but they are one team you can never count out. Manager Kevin Cash seems to get the most out of his players every year.\u00a0<\/p>\n

That is what is needed for a team that lacks the star power that other teams in the division have.\u00a0<\/p>\n

The Rays kicked off their season against the St. Louis Cardinals<\/a>, who are focusing on their youth movement. And while the offense thrived, it was not enough for them to take the series.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Yandy Diaz and Jonathan Aranda lead explosive Rays’ offense in series loss<\/p>\n

Offense was not hard to come by for the Rays in this series. They outscored the Cardinals 23-22. However, they would go on to lose the series 1-2.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Yandy Diaz and Jonathan Aranda led the way for Tampa Bay. They combined to go 15-for-29 with two doubles, nine runs batted in, and one home run.\u00a0<\/p>\n

According to Bleacher Report’s Joel Retuer<\/a>, the Rays are currently leading the majors with an impressive .339 batting average.\u00a0<\/p>\n

“Despite going 1-2 to start the year, the Rays lead the majors with a .398 batting average after racking up 41 hits in three games against the Cardinals pitching staff. Yandy Diaz and Jonathan Aranda lead the way, and eight different players recorded multiple hits.”<\/p>\n

That’s a great start, and now it is just on the pitching staff to look the part.\u00a0<\/p>\n

All eyes will be on Shane McClanahan this season as he tries to return from a two-year absence on the mound. And newly acquired Nick Martinez could play a vital role in the starting rotation if he can look sharp early.<\/p>\n

The offense cannot carry the load all season long. The pitching staff needs to step up, limit runs, and produce quality starts.<\/p>\n
