The San Diego Padres received good news on one of their best bullpen arms<\/p>\n
The San Diego Padres did not get off to the start they might have been hoping for as the team lost their opening series at home against the Detroit Tigers<\/a>. The Padres star-studded offense with Manny Machado<\/a>, Fernando Tatis<\/a> Jr and Jackson Merrill<\/a> failed to score over three runs in any of their first three games against the Tigers.<\/p>\n While the first game of the series got out of hand quickly for San Diego, the second and third games remained close for a majority of the game. The second game must particularly sting Padres fans as the team held a 2-1 in the eighth inning before the Tigers rallied for four runs against the San Diego bullpen. The Padres would not score again as they lost 5-2.<\/p>\n On that occasion, Padres reliever Jeremiah Estrada<\/a> allowed four runs as he walked three batters and allowed one hit. However, the Padres recently received some good news about one of their pitchers, which could prevent situations like the one against the Tigers.<\/p>\n San Diego Padres\u2019 Jason Adam Tosses Rehab Appearance<\/p>\n Over the past few seasons, the San Diego Padres<\/a> bullpen has been among the best in baseball, and a big reason for the Padres making back-to-back postseason appearances. Perhaps the best Padres reliever during that stretch has been Jason Adam<\/a>, who was acquired during the 2024 trade deadline from the Tampa Bay Rays<\/a> in a trade that saw the Padres give up top-100 prospect Dylan Lesko.<\/p>\n Since being acquired by San Diego, Adam has pitched 92 innings with a 1.66 ERA. Unfortunately, Adam suffered a late-season ruptured quad tendon that knocked him out of the 2025 postseason and the start of the 2026 season.<\/p>\n Fortunately, the Padres received some good news as Adam made his first minor league rehab appearance, tossing 1.1 innings and allowing only one hit.\u00a0<\/p>\n The San Diego Union-Tribune\u2019s Jeff Sanders<\/a> said regarding Adam\u2019s next steps to rejoining the Padres, \u201cHe has yet to appear in back-to-back games, a likely hurdle he\u2019ll need to clear before he\u2019s able to come off the injured list early next month.\u201d<\/p>\n Padres vs Giants<\/p>\n After their opening series, San Diego is set to take on the NL West rival San Francisco Giants<\/a>, which will feature the return of batting champion Luis Arraez<\/a>. Arraez spent nearly two seasons with the Padres, after being acquired during the 2024 season.<\/p>\n With the Padres, Arraez made the All-Star team in 2024 as he won the NL batting title with a .314 average. In 2025, Arraez took a step back as he finished below .300 for the first time since 2021, although he did lead the NL in hits for a second consecutive season. Despite this, Arraez had a 99 OPS+ which is slightly below average.\u00a0<\/p>\n Additionally, the series will feature the first start in a Padres uniform for pitchers Walker Buehler<\/a> and Germ\u00e1n M\u00e1rquez<\/a>.
