That context makes their latest decision to send right-hander Didier Fuentes easier to understand, even if it comes after a strong showing from a rising prospect.

“The #Braves today selected LHP Martin Perez to the major league roster after optioning RHP Didier Fuentes to Triple‑A Gwinnett following yesterday’s game,” the Braves wrote on X.

The move means Perez will now step into the rotation, while Fuentes heads back to the minors to continue his development. Despite the timing, this was always part of the plan for Fuentes, as the Braves want him to build up as a starter rather than remain in a temporary big-league role.

That decision may come as a surprise to some, especially after Fuentes delivered an impressive outing on Sunday against Kansas City. The 20‑year‑old pitched four innings in relief, allowing one run while striking out four against a solid lineup. It was another encouraging performance in what has been a strong stretch for the young right‑hander.

Fuentes also thrived during spring training, posting a 0.66 ERA with 18 strikeouts across 13 2/3 innings in four appearances. Those numbers reinforced his status as one of the Braves’ top prospects and highlighted his potential as a future rotation piece.

Still, Atlanta is focused on the bigger picture. Fuentes is currently viewed as the organization’s third‑best prospect, and at just 20 years old, there is no need to rush his development. Sending him to Triple‑A allows him to continue refining his skills and building the workload necessary to become a full‑time starter.

Fuentes originally signed with Atlanta as an international free agent in 2022 and has rapidly developed into one of the most promising arms in the system. While he made his MLB debut last year and struggled in limited action, posting a 13.85 ERA across four starts, his recent performances suggest he has taken a significant step forward.

With injuries to pitchers like Hurston Waldrep and Spencer Schwellenbach thinning the rotation for the foreseeable future, Fuentes could get another opportunity later this season. For now, however, the Braves will rely on Perez as they look to stabilize their pitching staff.

The Atlanta Braves made a notable roster move following their loss on Sunday to the Kansas City Royals,…

[2394
191,46,4166,5,192,25196,38015,2123,370,4,659,57061
post-653871","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","category-atlanta-braves","tag-atlanta","tag-atlanta-braves","tag-atlantabraves","tag-baseball","tag-braves","tag-didier-fuentes","tag-hurston-waldrep","tag-kansas-city","tag-martin-perez","tag-mlb","tag-spencer-schwellenbach","tag-the-kansas-city-royals
["GET
