Los Angeles Dodgers pitcher Roki Sasaki had a solid outing Monday night, and after the game, he revealed a little about what he\u2019s changed as he seeks to end the struggles he faced in spring training<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Sasaki gave up only one run in more than four innings of action, a far cry from the spring training hurdles he faced, including being pulled in the first inning of a game after he gave up a grand slam with no outs<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Despite the Dodgers losing 4-2 to the Cleveland Guardians<\/a>, Sasaki played well.<\/p>\n

He allowed four hits and struck out four with two walks.<\/p>\n

He also recorded nine whiffs in his 78 pitches, of which 45 were strikes<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Speaking with SportsNet LA<\/a>, Sasaki<\/p>\n

\u201cI was able to find the mechanics, so I think that really worked out,\u201d he said through an interpreter.<\/p>\n

Sasaki\u2019s performance Monday night was a huge improvement over his outings in spring training.<\/p>\n

He pitched 8.2 innings in the\u00a0preseason, allowing 15 earned runs and walking 15 batters. His ERA was\u00a0an atrocious 15.58 in the preseason<\/a>, though Monday\u2019s performance resulted in a much improved ERA of 2.25.<\/p>\n

That\u2019s a lot closer to Sasaki\u2019s dominant fall 2025.<\/p>\n

After returning from that shoulder injury, Sasaki \u201cbecome the team\u2019s surprise closer in the playoffs, posting an 0.84 ERA in nine appearances with three saves and two holds,\u201d as detailed by\u00a0Jack Harris of\u00a0The California Post<\/a>.<\/p>\n

What Does Roki Sasaki\u2019s Performance Mean for the Dodgers?<\/p>\n

Even in a loss, Sasaki\u2019s strong outing backs up the faith placed in him by team leadership.<\/p>\n

Manager Dave Roberts has\u00a0acknowledged Sasaki\u2019s troubles<\/a>, though he and general manager Brandon Gomes have both highlighted the young pitcher\u2019s potential as well.<\/p>\n

\u201cI don\u2019t think that you can completely bank on or evaluate spring training or an exhibition game. But yeah, it hasn\u2019t been great,\u201d Roberts noted in spring training. \u201cIt really hasn\u2019t. And we know that. The standard needs to be better. He knows that. We know that. And now, it\u2019s kinda go time, and see how he can perform when the lights come on.\u201d<\/p>\n

Roberts has been checking in with Sasaki and\u00a0publicly expressing confidence in the pitcher<\/a>, as has Gomes.<\/p>\n

\u201cHe\u2019s done it on the biggest stage, in front of 50,000, so we know it\u2019s in there,\u201d Gomes said. \u201cNow it\u2019s just getting him in rhythm and consistently syncing up pitches.\u201d<\/p>\n

On Monday, Sasaki took a step in that direction.<\/p>\n
