(WMTV) &#8211; On this day, March 31, 1998, the Milwaukee Brewers played their first game in the National League.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">Until this point, the team had played in the American League.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">The Brewers\u2019 first National League game was against the Atlanta Braves, in Atlanta.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">The Crew ended up losing 2-1, but secured their first National League win a day later.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">Milwaukee\u2019s transfer between leagues was the first of its kind since the American League was formed at the beginning of the 1900s. <\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">They became official members of the National League on November 6, 1997, bringing the National League to 16 teams, compared to the American League\u2019s 14 teams.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">Since joining the National League, the Brewers have appeared in the playoffs nine times, with two trips to the NLCS, <\/p>\n<p class=\"text | text-start article-text\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.nbc15.com\/page\/find-nbc15-news-wherever-you-are\/\" target=\"_blank\" title=\"\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Click here<\/a> to download the WMTV15 News app or our WMTV15 First Alert weather app.<\/p>\n<p class=\"copyright |\">Copyright 2026 WMTV.
