Following a leak of the new look, the Atlanta Braves have gone ahead and unveiled their newest edition of their City Connect uniforms via social media (skip to 1:06 for the goods).

As the video states, the new look is a bit of a remix of old looks. The powder blue from the 1980s-era road uniforms is here but there’s also plenty of red striping and outlining as well, so it’s also a bit of a mishmash of the ‘80s-era road and home uniforms as well. There’s also a pretty cool detail on the sleeves where the “ATL” initials are done in the same design as the old TBS Superstation logo. It’s a pretty neat callback to what was a unique era for this franchise.

Personally, I’m a pretty big fan of the pullover look (it comes natural to me as a Mississippi State baseball fan) and I feel like the jersey itself did a great job of harkening back to that era while also being unique and fit for the current era. I do wish that they had gone all the way with powder blue pants as well but that’s a quibble I’ve had with all of the other teams who have dabbled in returning to a powder blue look. If you’re going to do it, go all the way like the uniforms were in the past instead of simply leaving it to the jerseys.

Anyways, the hats look fine as well. Definitely didn’t think that they’d go with the lower-case “a” as a hat logo but I guess it’s a bit of a switch-up after the Henry Aaron 715-inspired City Connects were paired with the present-day “A” logo. I do like the powder blue crown with the royal blue brim and a red outline on top of the brim as well. It’s a unique hat.

Overall, I’d say it’s a pretty fun look at something that’ll be a nice change of pace whenever the Braves do choose to wear this uniform. Do I think it’s better than the previous City Connects? Nope — I thought those were a fantastic modernization of the old Aaron-era classic uniforms and one that I wouldn’t have minded seeing a blue version with white sleeves. However, this is a perfectly fine look and one that I’d guess will be fairly popular once people get used to seeing it on the field.

The jerseys are set to go on sale April 9 and I’d imagine that they’ll probably debut them on the field on April 11 against the Cleveland Guardians, so there’s two dates to circle on your calendar if these uniforms tickle your fancy. With that being said, what do y’all think? Thumbs up? Thumbs down?
